I've been playing warcraft 3 and so far I haven't even beaten the computer on normal in skirmish. I'm sort of intimidated to go online because they'll be vastly superior to me. Anyone ever felt like that?

I'm always intimidated with multiplayer. Honestly, I'm kind of a poor sport. I always have been. I just don't like to compete. In the past I haven't always been humble when I win, and I don't take loss very well. On the rare occasions that I actually do play multiplayer, I get really anxious.

Only the first time. I was afraid I wasn't going to be as good as I thought. But after playing my first online battle Halo2 free for all and demolishing the opposition. I had a realization... "I'm bad ass?" And its been an addiction ever since.

Yes, but when I finally get a proper headset for my PS3, I will be a bit less intimidated to at least try online play.

I dare the TC to play a game of Dota. That's the only multiplayer game I'm intimidated by.

I'd probably say the majority of RTS games. While I consider myself a decent player offline, I tend to get destroyed online tovastly superior players.

Only in team competition. If it's just me, I don't care. If I go in and stink up the joint, then my opponent or opponents have an easy win or kill and can feel good about themselves for owning me and it doesn't bother me. If I go into a team game though where I don't know what to do or what my role is, I'll be very hesitant because I don't want to be a detriment to the team.

TC -- when it comes to WC3, you're probably going to get destroyed even if you complete all the single player missions. My experience with WC3 and Starcraft online is that the campaigns don't come close to preparing you for being competitive online, so unless you want to put in lots of practice to get to that point, I'd just not worry about it too much and do it if you want to do it. Maybe let your opponent know when you start that you are a newbie and that you're just there to have fun and see how you do. You could also see if you could set up a match against AI opponents just to get a feel for it. I can't remember for sure if WC3 can do that but I think it can.

I play to win, but I'm not traumatized by losing so I'm never intimidated, but there have been a few Warhawk matches where I've seen who is on the other team (I'm familiar with the better players and/or clans) and thought 'Man, we're going to take a beating this round, but hopefully I'll learn a trick or two' :P.

It's a strictly team-based game where all your teammates expect you to know what your doing. A real fair game in Dota consists of no leavers during the game, or players who do not know how to play except feed the enemy with deaths. It has a horribad community (at least in Australia), but once you get the general gist of it. (by playing with friends on your team) It can be pretty fun. You might even get scolded for doing something newbish in a NOOB server.

No, not at all. When i join a multiplayer game, and im new to it, i make sure everyone knows that i frankly wont know what the hell ill be doing as soon as the game starts. This is also a good way to practice self-restraint, after getting kicked for the hundredth time before a game starts.

Same. When I started I got my ass handed to my in 6 pieces. I stubbornly continued playing however and now I'm quite good in Gears.

Once, when I first got Unreal tournament 2004. I got always killed in the first game so I figured they'd moved onto that game instead, to my surprise I found it to be much more balanced. Or I had gotten much better.

I only ever feel intimidated to play RTS's and fightersonline even though I love them. I just hate getting my *** handed to me like it was nothing.

Absolutely. Itsnerve racking to jump from playing single player to playing against other people who you know are awesome at the game.

No one likes the idea of getting their butt kicked.

I was like that the first time I played the first Socom. Luckily I went into a room with a bunch of cool people who took mercy on me and showed me the ropes.

Feel that way with Demigod. The game is hard to learn, no tutorial at all. I don't see the popularity of a game you have to spend hours trying to memorize keypresses.

Keypresses? I don't think there are that many in Demigod. It's a fun game; just start with single-player, and work your way up the AI until you feel ready to go online.
