...and clear it immediately?

I was totally stuck on fighting Doku on Ninja Gaiden and just quit. I went back to the game a month later and beat him in 10 minutes.

Recently on Gears of War, I was stuck at the end of Stage 2 where you are pinned down by the Locust. I came back to it a couple of months later, found destructable environments that I never found when I was beating my head against the wall before to make the battle easier, and finished it in 2 tries.

Nope. If I'm really stuck, I read FAQs or ask for help on the game's forums. When I play story games, I don't play other games until I finish the story. I only play sports or games w/ no story to take a break from the main game that I'm playing.

Yeah I have done that quite a few times. Its wierd you cant do that stuff when your trying so hard, its not like your skills are so much better later on when you trash the thing. I think its just luck heh. I cant really remember any examples to give for this sorry...Maybe the battle with Cerberus in DMC3 lol.

I don't remember any specific times but I remember that multiple times I quit a game for a while and then beat it instantly later. All I can think of is that I beat guitar hero songs I'm stuck on if I take a few week break(probably because my fingers get rested idk) and if I go back to an old console and do a hard part in a game it seems easier because its last gen and seems so much simpler.

I don't wait months, but if I can't beat a level I'll take a break for a few hours/days and come back later, and yeah, I find the level much easier. I think it gives you a fresh look at it, so you aren't trying to plow through in the same way. I try NEVER to read FAQ's or guides unless I'm convinced there's something wrong with the game or what I'm trying to do.

I too have been playing Gears lately, and it seems I'm using this tactic a lot!

I can't recall any specific details but that sort of thing happens to me. I get stuck in a game and just put it off for a while, comeback and get past it pretty easily. Funny thing is I usually get stuck at another point in the game again.

Yep, it has happened to me on several occasions. It's odd how taking a break from a section of a game that's caused you to fling the controller across room, seemingly allows you to breeze through it on your first or second attempt once you revisit it on later date.

Maybe it has to do something with the fact that after that break, you've lossed the frustration and anger of getting your butt handed to you multiple times. This allows you to return to the situation with no expectations, freeing yourself to actually focus on the task at hand, opening new avenues of thought and action....resulting in a quick resolution to the problem.

And there are a few games that will help you out by adjusting difficulty levels downward if you're having problems progressing through taxing areas of the game or bosses. Conversly, raising them if you're breezing through.

Yep, this happens quite a bit.
Playing a section of a game over and over usually just makes you play worse and it increases your frustration.
Coming back even a couple of days later usually has great results. Unfortunately, it's really hard for me to put a game down when I start becoming frustrated.

That has happened to me a few times too. If I just keep playing, I get so aggravated I make mistakes and miss stuff that I got past before. I go back a week or so later and get it on the first try.

Legend of zelda ocarina of time, I got stuck at the shadow temple for a very long time 8 to 10 months at the least, I started playing again and flew through that temple like in 30 minutes. I was suprised I didnt delete the file and start over I usually do that when I stop playing a game for a while to start fresh. I was smaller when I was playing zelda was a couple years back, doesnt mean it wasnt one of the greatest games created.

Yes. I've experienced this... well... not the flinging the controller, but getting by something I found really tough after a break. Some times all I need is a day or two of a break. Maybe I was getting frustrated, or maybe I was just tired that night, maybe I was playing too long, and now I'm fresh. Sometimes I put it down, pick something else up, and then don't go back for a year then wonder why I put it down in the first place.

Well, I'm not the kind of player who stops playing because it's too hard 8), but once I kept killing the right mobs for almost an hour in WoW and nothing dropped. The next day, I came back and I got my loot on the first kill!

I'll take a break, but I'd still be thinking about it constantly, trying out new tactics in my head. I'll usually be able to complete the section afterwards. Boss fights are a very good example of this.
