Playing a really old game, like going way back to virtual boy/nintendo/sega/dreamcast..etc... Even though the graphics are no way close to the cutting edge as they are today, I find myself playing older games much morethan newer one's. Why? Mainly because they were GOOD! :D

Graphic's do not make a game, it add's to the "realism" factor yes, but thats all. I havent really played a game that has been awesome as ina story that drag's you inand "move's" youremotion's ( yea,I know sounds lame, but you know what I mean) since FFVII, Beserker ( dreamcast for you who more than likely dont know) Devil May Cry 1, Drakenguard, Suikoden, Legend of legaia, Legend of Dragoon, Zelda (all). (Few out of manyexample's). None of those game's have the HD quality of games that are out now, but I can not begin to stresshow many times I have played each one of these through over and over again, it's like I get re-sucked into each one, nothing I have played within the last 3-5 years has even done that besides GoW, Valkryie Chronicles (which is beautiful btw), Prototype, FFXII, Cod4. Thats all I can really name.:( I mean there have been some really good games, I mean really good to come out, but when I'm done with it,eh it's done, won't touch it again probally, then I can pick up Legend of Dragoon and spend a week beating it all over again. I think all these game developer's need to get together and workout something, what good is a high definition rock, if you dont want to play it =/

What do you all think?

I agree, It seem's that since the graphic's werent so "life like" they made the game experience amazing. Now we have 120 hertz 1080P HD tree's.....now what to do with that tree...hmm....ha

Anyway though, I do agree with you some of my favorite games/memorable games of all times were from the 8 bit and 16 bit nintendos. They were just more fun to play, those games never came with manuals the size of dictionaries.

Granted they are making some intense, awe inspiring games now as well but the simpler games will always have a place in my heart.

Yes, old sonic game's (adventure 1 to dreamcast as example)= Own New sonic's (the secret ring's or some crap)= fail, lol. Old game's are just better as far as in what they are, game's where supposed to be this adventure/fanatsy/realistic experince that drag's you in. Now they are just realistic.....whoopie, i can take a cab in GTA4 or in real life...so excited....ha

Im with ya....even while Im playing a new game, theres always a couple golden oldies in the mix....Im actually playing FFVII for the first time right now, as well as going through the Sonic Genesis collection (which is great but needs Toejam and Earl!!), and Ive even started playing a ROM of Final Fantasy Legend II (my first FF game EVER, circa 1993!!!)...

What about the great new games that have old-school style gameplay? Ive been hooked on Everday Shooter now for days (bad pun, sorry), and its because the gameplay is so much like a bomb-old school games, but with nicer visuals and a kick-booty (GS is so pc :x) soundtrack. Its freakin addictive in the way pacman was....

More new/old-school greats include Mega Man 9 (its about time), Heavy Weapon, Flow, and of course Flower

Youre definitely not the only one who still loves old-school game style.

Whoot!!

I tend to run back to older games alot; Fallout 1/2, just got FF VII on my PSP via the online store so I started that again; I also have Capcom Arcade Classics on my PSP (ntm FF I). The older games just had something about them that made 'em deeper than current gen games - maybe its because they had to have some meat behind the game with the lower graphics, maybe it was because with less graphics dev time needed they could focus on gameplay and story more, who knows - but the older games still are the best in my eyes (thats why I love GoG - getting back to so many great classics cheaply is awesome)

Yes, I do. I'm slapping myself in the face right now for making the dumb mistake of selling most of my brother's old Nintendo games to Gamestop when I was younger.

I always do.

Game consoles were built solely for the purpose of gaming back then. The battles between Sega and Nintendo meant games for each platform were phenomenal. Nowadays you don't find that as much. MS is trying to sell the 360 with things like facebook, and twitter, and Sony's selling the PS3 as a multi-media box meaning there's actually a market for people that don't game on those systems.

My point being that to me I'll always find the best gaming to be had on old systems. SNES/N64/Dreamcast to be my absolute all time favorites (N64 is pretty hard to play nowadays though since the joystick is so clunky. Mainly I just play my SNES/Dreamcast)

That's completely what Im getting at. Game systems were meant only for games period, so the only thing you could inprove on..was...GAMES. When you add something to the factor automaticlly you cut the full potential of 1. If you have a platfrom for games and media...a gaming platform that concentrates only on just games, will have more better game's, but not the media. Idk, I like and don't mind all of the things you can do with the next gen system's, but seriously if you call it a 'GAMING CONSOLE" you would think it would be more focused on game's and how they play and NOT just look's, media capabilitie's etc... Oh and Dreamcast own's lmao

Yeah, FFVII for the first time.....I was out of gaming for a number of years, and that game is so hyped up that I waited awhile to try it out. Im glad I did; I can actually see that its a pretty great game without being snowed over by nostalgia or it being my first FF game in years....

Plus, when I started playing again, Chrono Trigger was my first RPG, and those are big shoes to fill.

I like old games. I mean, I haven't really been playing REALLY old games, like 1980's or nothing. But I do play games from 1996 - 1999 and think they thomp many games within the last few years ^_^

And I do agree that grpahics do not make a game. Totally - i'd trade in graphics for decent gameplay any day of the goddamn week

That's the area Im hitting at when I say old game's, more around 1987-2001 I know there were game's before that, but they were all well more acarde then what you would call a game now, you know. As for what you said about the graphic's, agreed.

True, but I still say graphic's arent too important, but are an amazing addition. If I asked you what is your favorite game and why, would you tell me you "love" it just because it look's good? It only improve's the realism/ "wow" factor. Won't make you like/ "fall in love" with it though.

Another game I' played about 200 times and probally is my all time favorite is...*drum roll*...Xenogears to the PS1. At the time the graphic's were good-great, game is long as can be, plenty of extra's and the storyline...all I can say is wow. Every time I play it, it's like I never played it before. Its full of love, hate, revenge, betrayel, power, corruption, secret's,and so much more.Just wanted to get that out, haha

Old games can be totally awesome. I used to play the old AD&D games a ton and the graphics were horrible. I got immersed into some of those games more than I ever did in many of the newer games. Pools of Darkness was by far the coolest. I think I am the only person on GS that ever reviewed that game actually.

As I'm sure many a person has said before... in these exact words, "Graphics do not make a game. They are gnarly and/or radical, but not the only important aspect."
