Have you ever get scared by a videogame?

In this topic show to the world your purest fears (games only...don't talk about fear of spiders, heights or your mother with a stick)!

Tell us about how that beast jump from the corner and made you fall on the ground... That crazy game that makes you sweat and shake everytime you play it... That time you woke up in the middle of the night screaming for Princess Peach... "Why don't you leave her alone, Bowser!?"...

I'll start with my own experience with fear.

1. game: Turok

type of fear: is anybody out there?

After playing several hours in a row... I'm in an open space with nobody...or nothing...around. I only hear the creepy sound of the wind and the roar of a jaguar that never appears. I remember this place... I've been already here and i remember killing everyone. So, i keep on walking. Suddenly there's something... "bum...bum...bum..." Sound of heavy footsteps (or clawsteps?). The sound is getting louder. The speakers are shaking... I used to play this game with the sub-woofer at maximum...don't do that! When you hear this sound you know something big is coming. I look around...keep walking...and nothing...I know it's close...But i can't see it...why? The sound is gone... That never happened before. Was it a glitch? where's that velociraptor waiting to take his meal? I'm getting confused. "Where is it!? Where is it!!??"... It's all so quiet. I can't stand this. Esc...Quit game...

2. game: Resident Evil 3

type of fear: let's take a lunch...

I'm in a corridor with stairs to the 1st floor. Down there is a big window. I start walking down the stairs when i hear a familiar sound. If you played this game you remember that beast with tentacles...the one from the intro movie. At this point i thought the guy was invincible. I had several close enconters and never managed to kill him. I just think "that thing is going to jump from the window when i pass by"... I keep telling this to myself. My cousin says "What are you waiting for?".... I can't remember if the beast jumped from the window. But i remember it was a moment of tension.

3. game: Carmageddon 2 (no, i'm not joking)

type of fear: wtf

I'm cruising through the city full of zombies. Schplof, schplof schplof...(Sound of zombies under the tires of my car). My only objective: destroy the other drivers car. Death match, head-to-head. I'm looking for it. Going up on a ramp at an aprox. speed of 200mph, a giant truck (really big one) appears on the top of the ramp. It jumps over me and all that big monster of yellow steel blocks my view for a second. I never thought i would freaked out by a car racing game.

4. game: FEAR

type of fear: it's going to happen, isn't it?

I'm waking through empty corridors. I know there's no-one here because i played the demo before. When i go down a set of stairs, i see a little girl... no big deal. I was expecting her. I'm on the bottom floor. Look to the left. A guy walks in to me. Just before he touches me, he disappears. "Wow! I don't remember this from the demo"... Keep going. Now i'm in a zone i don't recognize. I see a dark narrow space and enter in it look for some goodies. At the end there's a power up...and a dead man... I keep my flash light on. Grab the power up. Walk backwards from that place always looking to the body. Every step i made i was thinking "Or that dead guy is going to attack me anytime, or someone will come from behind and stick a bullet in my head"... None of this append! But that feeling was great.

Now you can call me what you want. But i'm not a P****, f**,c*****, or any offensive names you can imagine. I just like to live games as i was part of them.

I was litterally too freaked out and scared to finish silent hill 1. The dark corridors of the school and the flashlight as you only source of illumination was just too much for me T_T. Of course this was about 10 or so years ago ...but i still havent played the game since or passed the school area for that matter.

p.s. I totally finished Doom 3 tho =D...but just barely x_x /shudder

I thought Resident Evil 4 was pretty scary. Just because of the music and how quiet it was most of the time. I felt like something would jump out at me at any moment.

I did and it didn't. Once you've delved into the darker recesses of the Survival Horror genre, F.E.A.R.'s main gimmick loses it's impact. It's hard to be scared by all the strange goings on when none of it actually hurts you. Underneath all the strange little girls and moody lighting it's just another mediocre FPS.

Everything from the first Dino Crisis scared me, and the old PS1 Resident Evils..not to mention a few moments during RE4..namely the part where you're walking through the prison and those creatures that twitch jump out from the jail cells.

The little girl on the ladder at the beginning of FEAR definitely made me jump. Condemned did numerous times too.

If you guys think it's bad on a little screen, try playing some of these games at 120" with surround sound. The immersion is that much more intense because you no longer have a practical frame of reference. I have my screen sized so that, from my couch, the edge of the screen is JUST inside my peripheral vision. Completely messes with your mind's sense of perspective (cliff scenes in movies can be downright nauseating). Awesome though!

Yep, tons of times.

At the age of eight I first played Doom II: Hell on Earth... not fun. Then there really wasn't anything to scare me as much as Doom II (lots of nightmares) until Doom 3 came along and freaked the absolute crap out of me back in 2004. Then a couple years later I went back to it and found it to be a lot less scary then I originally experienced it. Then I played System Shock 2... I still haven't gone back to that game after playing it well over a year and a bit ago.

My most recent and truly terrifying/exhilarating "scary" experience was with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. I started playing it last December (2007) and got to the X18 Lab and was freaked out so much just completely stopped playing. Then in April I picked it up again and was able to brave the rest of the game all the while nearly messing myself countless times along the way.

I need to go back and finish System Shock 2... although I really don't want to... but I really need to.

I had a few chilling moments, but to really get your fear down to feeling a child being attacked by a monster, anticipation creates the most out of fear, such as those from the classic Hitchcock films. When a bomb is under your home, and explodes without you knowing it, that is a surprise, as some creature pops out of no where. If you know that the bomb is under the house and you think (or know) it will explode, that is fear, just as knowing a monster will come out.

I had never been scared of a video game. I tried a Resident Evil game, The Suffering, and F.E.A.R. (not an apt title.) But this all changed....

When I played Condemned: Criminal Origins. :o I mean, Christ, this game is horrific. Every time you hear a grunt behind you as a psychotic criminal is about to swing a crowbar into your spine, or those long dark passages that portend dangers which never come.

There were times I just had to put that game down for the fright it instilled in me and the sheer brutality. Manhunt? Pshaw, the ESRB should check out Condemned. Now THAT game is violent. Not that I am complaining, it just points out the media's ignorance and blind condemnation of Rockstar rather than more violent franchises. Anyway, Condemned is a good game. :D

Agreed. Alma scared me once, maybe twice. The ladder scene mentioned before was probably the scariest part of the game and that doesn't say much. The only other scary part I can think of is when that body is thrown through the conference room window and into the hall.

It comes down to F.E.A.R. being a FPS and not a horror game as well. A great FPS at that, just not a scary one.

Resident Evil series are not scary, Silent Hill becomes dull etc. but i almost stopped playing Fatal Frame, its atmosphere is HEAVY...

and Undying was good too. i like Horror games when they are scary, not when they are great in comedy

I played Resident Evil 0 on coop years ago and it scared the crap out of me but it was so intense i had to keep playing it.

Silent Hill 1 bought some good thrills, those hideous mole children in the school were just terrible.I really would like to finish that game now.

The Suffering. The sudden flashbacks just gave me chills.

Its been awhile since i've played an actual game that scares me but i really want to try out Condemned.Lets hope the new Silent Hill can cut it and Resident Evil 5 just looks absolutey exquisite.

For me the scariest game ever is a PC game called Phantasmagoria....

This game is really scary, its so wierd and devilish, the tone of music is terrifying to me. I played this game when i was 13 and it would still scare me if I played it today. NO kidding. Its made form 7 cd's...7 scary CD's....

after that, i recall one scary moment was in resident evil when you open one of the first doors in the mansion and dogs jump at you then in 2 sec you are dead. That was scary...

Rogue Galaxy - the part in Kuje Desert were you talk to a lady, but when the camera angle changed, she turned into a skeleton. I got goosebumps on that part.

Okami - when the head of the Queen Spider suddenly flashed full screen. I jumped a little. Hehe.

They Hunger - at the beginning scene, there is a coffin and beside it is the usuall picture of Jesus with his heart in thorns. The coffin openned and a zombie came out of it. The zombie scratched the picture of Jesus! That is the most disturbing scene I've ever seen. I can't believe someone could make a scene like that!

I would have to say that fear was a pretty scary game. Especially when the little girl would appear out of no where and the room would be blood.

Also there was one scene in particular in Bioshock when I was looking through a desk draw and then I turned around and there was a dentist standing right there. Ya that was some pretty crazy stuff right there.

Also can forget the first Resident Evil when you are walking down one of the dark hallways and you can hear a zombie sniffing trying to find your scent and you can't see him, that was crazy too!

Doom 3 was pretty bad for me. Specially when you would open a door and a imp I think would leap at you. Pretty much any game that has mutants, zombies, aliens, and ect ect running right at me always gets my nerves up. Heck, those husks in Mass Effect make me squirm.

And, I don't watch horror movies.

Silent Hill 1, oooh, about ten years ago or so. The use of sound in the game was and still is excellent from all of the distant sounds to the closer ones, not recommend to have acat when you're playing the game. When I was playing it my family's cat decided it wanted some attention and just when things went quiet in the game, as they tended to do before the siren would come on, the cat jumped on top of the tv.

She almost became super cat when she did that.

I must agree! As odd as it may seam.

What about that forest with werewolves in Fable Lost Chapters? I'm not saying they scared me, but the environment quite has that "oh my god, i'm alone in the woods" feel.
