I started to play FF VI, and for whatever reason I am having a hard time getting into the story so far. I am about 2-hours in and so far it isn't really doing anything for me. I really, really want to like this game, but for whatever reason the game and story are not resonating with me. Has anyone else had this issue with FF VI? If so, did you end up getting more into it as the game progress or did you find that no matter how hard you tried you just could not get into the story?

I had the same problem. I played to something like 5 hours in, twice. On the SNES and GBA.

You basically put way too high expectations on the game on something that could only meet so little. Nostalgia and preference can be very dangerous criteria, basis-wise, when it comes to evaluating whether or not you should invest your time and money on a relic of entertainment.

I can tell you this, if you find yourself not enjoying something that's meant to entertain then just put it aside. Don't force yourself, for then the purpose of the game, to entertain you, would be null and void. There are thousands of newer RPGs that truimpth over FFVI and improved its foundations in every way. FFVI just set the standard at the time. It's a classic, the "Westside Story" of RPGs. I think I've brought my point across.

I've had that problem with every FF game I've tried :/ I recently bought FFXII to make a new attempt at getting into Final Fantasy.

I just bought FF6 and Chrono Trigger for the SNES. I missed both games back when they came out. Back then I hated turn based RPG's. I'm looking forward to giving them a try.

To be honest, I had the same problem playing Final Fantasy 6. Started the game 3 weeks ago First 10 hours were really dull / sleepy for me since I was really forced to play characters I didn't want to but as you progress the story gets really good and hooks you in It will take a long time. I nearly dropped the game

I would only say to keep going. The story is awesome and once you get the chance to start making your own parties you might enjoy it more.

I had more fun with the game about mid way into it. You get espers that can give your characters extra points of strength, agility, hp, ect upon level ups. It is a good game, just different.

this, although i remember getting the game when it first came out and i was pretty much hooked. it's pretty basic until you get a bit further into the game (i think 5-6 hours in) and start collecting espers and some other er... things that change up the strategy a little. i always enjoyed it because it was pretty open ended battle wise and there was lots of hidden stuff and side stuff.

I'm a personal believer that if you want to really "get" final fantasy it helps to play them in chronological order, the series makes more sense in that fashion. you take note of the small changes in the different systems and how everything evovled from ff1 to ff13, from the battle system to the story telling and the "extra" stuff that makes it what it is, it all changes a little from game to game and adds new stuff. for the money i'd recommend ff1, ff4, ff6 & ff7 to everyone. i thought ff9 was pretty good but it felt like they sat down and played ff1 - 8 and said "ok mish mash all that up and make it kinda old-school ff with the different classes"
