Has anyone seen the gameplay videos? I got very exited when they've shown a clip of it at E3 (i think) and I still look forward to this game. But the game is getting a lot of critisism from some analysts. I don't see anything wrong so far. Thoughts?

I'm curious to try the demo, but I don't think I'm anywhere near sold on the game yet. The dialogue seems a little awkward at this point. If it succeeds at being a solid adventure game, I'll pick it up, but I'm worried that it might end up being more of an interactive movie and less of a proper game. I want it to be good, but I just don't know. Right now there are just too many games coming out for me to gamble on stuff, so I'm hoping the demo solidifies my opinion one way or another.rragnaarI know the interactive novels are pretty big in the land of the rising sun, but I don't know how well that will to in Western markets (if that is indeed what this game tends to lean towards, which from the interviews and videos leads me to believe). To me, your average JRPG is as close as I want to get towards this type of interactive media. Any closer and I would rather read a book or watch a movie. Of course I only represent myself, and I hope the game is as well polished as I think it's going to be for those who like that style.
I don't think it'll appeal to a very broad audience, which is a shame because it looks great. I loved Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit and I can't wait to get my hands on this one. A lot of people criticize the game for being one big QTE, which is true, but in my opinion it's not a bad thing. I actually enjoy quick time events. I have the Special Edition pre-ordered, must have the OST.
One one hand, the mutlitude of options is awesome, but I hate the thought of missing something in a game.muthsera666This drives me crazy. The OCD in me will never let me enjoy a title like this such as a normal person would.
lol so many mods in one thread.. I is sacred.
Actually Heavy Rain seems to be getting pretty positive feedback from the previews I've read. I however haven't been too impressed by the voice acting in a game that is based around voice acting. The dialogue is poorly written as well.
I do like what I've seen of the gameplay. I like how intense it can be, and how the choices branch into multiple scenarios. It all seems very organic. The Convienience store bit especially was kinda brilliant tbh. I will rent the game for sure. Not sure if I'm going to buy it at full price.

I'm been really impressed by the gameplay footage I've seen and the vision Cage has sketched out in interviews, so I'm really excited about HR (have it prepurchased).
I am interested in the game, however I would like to try a demo to see how it handles.
I'm not sure if I will pick it up at launch, but I hope the game turns out to be good and something different.
Edit: Some guy's preview

Right now there are just too many games coming out for me to gamble on stuff, so I'm hoping the demo solidifies my opinion one way or another.rragnaarI agree. There are a lot of interesting games coming out in the first half of this year including big, well-established franchises like Halo, God of War, Grand Turismo etc. As you mentioned, I'm also inclined to buy one of these instead of a new IP.
I hope they don't include the first 9 minutes of the game in the demo. People have been judging the whole game through these 9 minutes while completely forgetting the videos they've shown during E3, like this one.I am interested in the game, however I would like to try a demo to see how it handles.

That was nice and intense - I liked how the actions available also helped in setting the tone.
I thoroughly enjoyed Indigo Prophecy (well, the first two-thirds),so I'm quite interested in Heavy Rain.
The only zero-replay game I've ever loved enough to buy was Ico, which was like $30. If they cut the price of Heavy Rain in half and it doesn't feel like an average movie I'm down for it :)istuffedsunnyYou're saying that Heavy Rain won't have any replay value?
I'm really looking forward to this game actually. One of my most anticipated of 10'.
I think its going to be the most polarizing game of the year as well but I from the little of seen on this game and my enjoyment of the good parts of Fahrenheit, it should be an incredibly unique experience. There is lots of complaints on the writing and voice acting but I'm use to it in this medium, so I keep my expectations in check, im not expecting Lord of the Rings caliber storytelling here. I think the game will really shine in giving the player very tense moments, thats all I hope for. The diner scene in Fahrenheit is one of the most memorable gaming moments I've had, thats what I expect from this game.

I heard the controls are different from standard games and feel clumsy and awkward, the game also has alot of QTE events which won't go over with some people, sure there are some people that will like this game, but i feel like it's going to have mixed opinions among gamers and critics alike, I'm not getting it, just not my cup of tea, maybe when a price drop hits.Has anyone seen the gameplay videos? I really, really don't know about Heavy Rain. On one hand i want it to be great. The graphics are fantastic and it's a risk, i want to support people that try something different. On the other hand i don't want to buy Dragons Lair 2. So i'm waiting either for a demo or reviews to see.
The trailer put me off it. It's going to be another Fahrenheit type quick time event fest all the way through the game, with a plot that starts off interesting then spirals into some stupid Deux Ex Machina type thing.
I can't wait for this game. It's going to be my first game of 2010. I preordered my special edition a couple of days ago.

Don't forget about The Last Guardian. edgewalker16You're right! Hopefully they will show more of that game during this year's E3.

There are options from which you can continually choose, but those aren't really quick-time events.
Demo's hitting the 11th and its not restricted to those of us who preordered HR (a stupid move Sony has made in the past).
The preorder bonus for those of us who preordered is the first free episode of the Heavy Rain Chronicles, stuff which takes place before the proper game but offers up episodes based around specific characters. The first is Madison's encounter witha serial killer whokills woman andmakes trophies out of their corpses(the bit where she explores the house for a bit before the killer comes back home).
There's a new trailer which is extremely spoileriffic on Sony's bog.
The wonderful folks at Gamersyde have the game's intro vid. It looks pretty good.
There are some early reviews coming in as well. They are in French, so I have no idea about the text, but it is scoring well at the very least. I think the European PSN store gets the demo next week, so we'll finally get to check it out.

man, those are some good reviews. I am not going to read the reviews until AFTER I've played through the game (reviews have become too spoilerific lately...), but judging from what I've seen, the gameplay seems pretty intriguing for an adventure game. The graphics look fantastic too. I just hope the horrible voice acting and dialogue dont ruin the game.
I can't believe it. I finally found my first reason for why I took so many years of French in highschool and college.
Alright higher education, don't fail me now. . .

I haven't been watching too much vids of HR so I can't comment on the English VOs but I'm considering using the French VOs with Eng subs since thats the native language of the devs. One of the french reviews mentions the English VOs specifically in a negative way as well. Its too bad though, since I thought Indigo Prophecy was pretty good in that regard, don't know how you manage to get worse with all that extra money, tech and dedication. I think it might be cool to try a game in another language though, never done that before.I'm really looking forward to the game, and am sold as far as the game's overall structure. I really liked Fahrenheit, but I'm hoping they fix the problems in HR.

Gamersyde posted up a translation of their French review. They don't have scores for their reviews, but it is largely a positive review:
Verdict:
Your should expect 8 to 10 hours to complete the game, which, to me, seems pretty reasonable for the genre. Add to that the replay value of the game with the possibility to replay all the 50 chapters of the game - either to unlock new content and trophies or to simply try to discover new scenes by playing differently - and you will get an idea of how much time you will spend in the world of Heavy Rain. As far as I'm concerned, I definitely enjoyed my time playing the game, but then again, I had had my fun with Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. It may not be the revolutionary game some expected, it may also be very different from all the others, but it still is a good experience overall. It obviously has flaws, like the fact that some choices could have been made even tougher and more punishing for the player, or the fact that too much time is usually given to react. It is also a shame that some answers are left unsaid at the end - should we expect them in the upcoming downloadable contents? - but, in spite of some awkward moments, the game will keep you interested until the ending credits show up. Some will probably argue that the gameplay has been too simplified to be worth a try, but after more than 8 hours, I can say I feel lucky not to have stopped at such prejudices.
