Hello all, I apologize if this is not the right section to be asking this, but it seemed like the best bit. I am looking for the title of an SNES RPG I played a few years back. I believe it had a similar fighting system to the Final Fantasy games in that you are sucked into a different screen when battling although I am not positive. I know some of the magical abilities you gain can be used in the roaming world. For example there was an area of a town I was only able to continue to explore as I gained additional abilities, such as the ability to float or detect invisible things. This in turn led me to an underground area where I had to freeze the water to be able to continue on. I never did finish exploring it. The thing I remember most was the point at which I got stuck in the game. I had to cross an ocean to get to a larger continent, when a large sea monster attacked the ship I was on. I was never able to defeat said monster, I think it had a name like the Kraken or Leviathan or something. Does this ring any bells for anyone? Sorry I couldn't provide more details, and if anything comes to mind please let me know.

That bottom area sounds like Final Fantasy V. You get your boat attacked and you cross over continents the majority of the game.

I don't know, being sucked into a zone of darkness being chased by fairys that turn into dragons, eat you, you come back out and become infected, which turns you into a turte/human hybris with hand blade while trying to escape a kingom that has people made so that the only way a kid can turn into an adult is to burn them with white fire when they are the age of 5. Not even including that journey through the parallel diension portals and being able to absorb certain species to add new moves and body parts, like machine gun blade shooter. But nah, todays rpgs are boring. :)

For some reason I suspect it isn't a Final Fantasy game, but you could be right. I will take a look at it anyhow.

I don't believe so. As I recall this battle happened while on board a large ship and it hits you while you are right between two continents. You can see the town you are heading towards. Beyond that I think the monster is front of you in the sense that your characters are looking out on the sea from the ship in the same way you as a player are looking at the tv, although I am not positive about this. Before this battle happens I think one of the crewmembers or possibly the captain indicates running into the monster is a possibility. Still, thanks for giving it a shot!

I can't, I don't remember any U.S. released rpg that's like that other than FFV. It might be Paladins Quest. Are you sure you don;t have a small amount of additional detail?

Maybe you're thinking of Secret of the Stars now that I think about it.

WHOA WHOA WHOA. It's not a SNES rpg at all, you're thinking of Shining Force 2.

After taking a look at youtube videos of the games you've mentioned it doesn't look like it was any of them. My comment about the direction the characters face during battles could be mistaken. I am starting to wonder if I hallucinated this game.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals would be my guess if it's not Final Fantasy V.

Though it's a ghost ship you fight and not a kraken.

No problem man :P when I saw you mention the float and detect invisible objects, and freezing water, I thought Golden Sun, then you mentioned Kraken and the Leviathan, and that made me sure :P
