i'm looking for a good story, lots of cut scenes, and abundant and unnecessarily flashy and over the top specials and magic spells(think "knights of the round" from ff7).

that last part is probably the most important to me btw, if the magic and specials don't make me go wow then i usually cant finish the game.

choose from: FF6, FF8, FF9 or wild arms 2

If you want flashy I'd say FFVIII or FFIX, they have big summons.

Wait, seriously? Flashy magic spells are the thing that keep you most interested in an RPG?

Why are you guys making such a big deal over him wanting flashy skills as a priority? I'd also get bored with a game with boring moves. Just not to the extent that he does, but still, it's not that much of a deal. Everybody likes to get "wow'd" during battles.

FF8 is bad, FF9 is flashy but all the flash is for nothing, as every attack only hits 1 time. Making Dagger an vivi impossible to replace. I would go for FF6 or Wild arms 2, even having never played wild arms 2.

I like super-flashy spells, attacks, and summonings in my RPGs, too!

Makes it a little better but still confused why you would pass on a great RPG because of no flash. Oh well whatever floats your boat.

I'd go with final fantasy 8. The whole combat system is based around flashy summon magic so you use it right from the start.

Either FF6 or FF9 as they are the best FF games. Make one of them tails, one of them heads, and then flip a coin to decide which one you'll play.

Golden Sun on the GBA is pretty awesome. It's basically a SNES but they do a lot of cool stuff like gods attacking from outer space and blowing up the Earth yu get to see beaches, forests, and deserts destroyed) as a special move.
