It just came to me, if one of the big 3 fail let's say in 5 years or so, I'm almost certain Apple might jump in the console wars, I mean they could right? I personally think it would be a great fit and they'd probably bring something fresh to the table, but I'm wondering how much leverage they have in Japan, which is crucial for the success.
What are you guys thoughts on that? Anybody else sees this happening?

I see you point and it sounds good, but in my opinon is that SEGA will make a surprise comback I mean look at them they have games that come out on all systems, they might not be good, but everyone buys them. They also have a little more leverage in Japan, not as much as Nintendo, but deffinetly more than Apple. And they have made systems before and are still making them (Dreamcast 2 went out in Japan recently I believe). So I would probably but SEGA over Apple, but hey imagine if both went in together! They would own the world probably...

No, Sega is done. Apple might but I wouldn't bet on it.

Neither would I. At least, not a present. They got a time table to keep.

That and esp what happened with the Pippin

If apple were to release a console, what would it look like? We already have the Wii.

If one of the big three fail spectacularly, I don't think anyone else will be thinking to themselves 'Now is a good time to jump into this market'.  Just my opinion... and while I really like Apple products, they can't get anyone to develop games for their computers, so I don't see how they'd have an easy time with a console.

If a 1st time console maker wants tojump in the wars, I can't see any other company that can have an impact, philips tried, panasonic tried, they failed miserably, if apple does jump in, just imagine all the hooplah they'd create, just like they did with the iphone, developers will surely notice.

Maybe Apple would join in the portable gaming industry, not sure about consoles though, seeing as how competetive the industry already is.

I understand they don't really have a games division, but didn't SONY use to make crappy SNES games before the PS?

i was always under the impression sony entered the gaming market after the failed SNES-CD. as far as a 'comeback kid' or w/e if one of the big 3 topples, i'd say itd be random suicide. if apple goes for it, no doubt it would be wii like (in appearance if nothing else) but i'd hardly expect apple to go the gaming route, what with the amazing gaming support mac users get.

as far as Sega and DC2, i'm kinda out on that one. i love my DC and all, but the stuff theyve been releasing outside of japan has been lackluster at best, with the sporadic hit. not nearly enough to support a eral console. i'd LOVE it if somehow SNK could be an independent company again and come out with a Neo Geo 2, but again, too little too late.

if one of the big three topples, i fear the other two would quickly usurp the fallen's market share, and we'd be one step closer to uniform media, and VG will go the way of the music industry. so sad.
