It doesn't make sense to me either. Ocarina is simply GREAT game design. Even if I don't care for a game as such, you still have to recognize the effort put in. For example: I personally don't care for LIttle Big Planet, but it is well designed/produced.
I simply didn't like it. Bored me to death to 100% honest. That's really all I have to say.amari24

I dunno... To me, having played Zelda since the days of the NES, the 3D meant it just didn't really feel like Zelda. I still haven't played any 3D Zelda games all the way through but can't get enough of the 2D ones. I will revisit again, I am sure, I have OoT and Marjora's Mask sitting in a box taunting me as wek speak. It is only a matter of time.
I am a much bigger fan of 2D Zelda games. I think Zelda A Link To The Past just might be the best Zelda ever created.
As far as 3D versions of Zelda, I much prefered Wind Waker due to the art style and gameplay. It was like playing a cartoon. Just amazing cell shading and a work of art.
I almost looked over this game when it first came out, but fortunately picked it up and loved it thoroughly. While I have no complaints about it at all, I could see people not liking it because they don't like the genre or they are fanboys who like to unjustifiably bash it because of how amazing of a game it is.
I loved the game Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. But the Nintendo 64 controller was not the most comfortable to play this game.
I had my fun with it for a little while but it got so boring honestly, it didn't hold up well to me later. I also feel it didn't age very well for me, it seems like there's so much pointless, time-consuming walking. I can understand what they were going at, trying to have a vast and open world to explore, but it was so.. Barren and got monotonous after awhile. This wasn't a problem in the older Zelda games, especially my personal favorite, A Link to teh Past. I think now, OoT has become absolutely boring to me. It's just not enjoyable to play anymore for me, there's other N64 games I'd much rather be playing. It was great at the time and is still alright to play sometimes now, but at this point I just don't like it nearly as much anymore. And they ruined Link. An earring? Blonde hair? Really? I liked his pink hair. :(

same for me. Its not that I think its a bad game , I can tell its a high quality game, I just couldn't get into it., same for every other Zelda gameI love the game myself but I can see why some people wouldn't like it. Maybe they don't like the genre, not everyone likes all genres (I don't like FPS but there are a whole lot of people that do) so even if there is a great game like OoT if you don't like the genre, you most likely wont like that game. There are also a lot of people that don't like anything Nintendo because "Nintendo is for kids"
There are most likely other reasons too, a few people on here have said they don't like 3D Zelda games as much as 2D ones because they don't feel like Zelda games to them. That's fair enough, if that's how they feel no one can say they're wrong for feeling that way.
No game can please everyone. Everyone is different and therefore will have different tastes in games. There is no right or wrong, just opinions.

I disagree. There is good game design and bad game design, objectively speaking.

You're not getting what I'm saying...There's a big difference between someone saying "Ocarina of Time is a crappy, badly designed game" than there is saying "I personally don't like the game".
If someone personally dislikes the game and recieves no enjoyment from playing it, that's fine. There's no right or wrong answer - you either like the game or you don't. I wasn't going into wether or not the game is actually a good, well made game, but just that no critically acclaimed is always going to please everyody.
I loved the game. Though whenever I play it, I use a walkthrough. These Zelda games have puzzles that can be really tough to figure out at times :(
The first Zelda I ever played was the NES version. I did not like OOT it didn't feel like the Zelda to me. I hated the introduction of the gorons and I didn't like the Zoras either. OOT also lacked the detail that ALTTP had. The grafics were aslo horrible when compaired to other games like Banjo Kazooie.
The Game is Empty. The game is mostly running around in areas with nothing much going on in the screen. Generic linear story. Not much to get if you go off the linear path the story puts you in. Terrible Auto-aim (targetting). The Controler of the N64 itse;f makes the game not very interesting to play. Repetitive dungeons. Time Travel story telling is terrible. A lot of flat objects/animations. A lot of the same puzzles over and over. Etc. It's not a piece of crap and I can tell they threw money on it, but even still it just isn't that good of a game. I think people are just scared to call the game bad. or used to, I see more people talking about MM and WW now.Yeah,i made a thread in System Wars, but it was locked and i was told to make one here.

Video Gamer since 1977 here, and I wasn't impressed with Zelda way back when it started, the sequels have held no magic for me, and the entire series is a blank spot to me. Sorry. It's not that I dislike it, it's more that the series has never made any impact on me as a gamer (and yes, I've played some OoT as well as LZ, and I near tossed my lunch looking at LZII when it debuted).
Just bores me to tears, honestly. The entire land of Hyrule can burn.

I guess that's a little like asking why some people don't like apple juice.
nameless12345
Apple Juice makes me poop. Zelda never felt quite like that.

When OoT came out, I remember all of my circle raving about how Nintendo was going to change the game (meaning the over-all competition to inovate between platforms) with what we were seeing in it. That has indeed come to pass. People say RE4 was the game-changer for third-person, but OoT really set the bar a loooong time before RE4 in my book. For that, I give the game props.
My opinion hasn't fundamentally changed... Just to leave it on a positive note I thought I should add the above. I guess I would care if Hyrule burned (as I posted earlier in the thread).
:)
LoZ has had a pretty significant impact on the industry, and without it, it's hard to say that games I DO treasure above others, like "Drakan: The Ancients' Gates" (the penultimate action-adventure RPG of all-time) would not have been made.

true say, OoT did play a big role in the gaming industry whether you like the game or not lol
No one says that Resident Evil 4 was a game changer for third person games. Resident Evil 4 gets the attention it does because it introduced the core template of many (if not all) third person shooters we see today as well as a significant amount of horror games. When OoT came out, I remember all of my circle raving about how Nintendo was going to change the game (meaning the over-all competition to inovate between platforms) with what we were seeing in it. Anyways to get back on topic, no one is going to like every game out there regardless of how many awards and love a single game recieves. If you're wondering about the "what's your favourite Zelda" flamefests, it's most likely because they ran into the army of fools who refuse to believe that Ocarina of Time has been improved upon and surpassed. Then in turn, they join the army of fools who go as far as claiming they hate Ocarina of Time even though it's a very influential game that still holds up well today.
1. The game completely holds your hand telling you how to do everything, where to go, and how to do it.
2. It's far too linear for a Zelda game. Zelda games are supposed to be about an open world to explore. But this game instead tells you exactly where to go and when to go.
3. I HATE the stupid fairy and Tingle.
4. Too cutesy looking for it's own good.
5. I hate the N64 controller. I can suffer through the controller for great games, but since I already don't like the 3D Zelda games, this just adds to it.
6. I was just plain bored playing though it.
IMO, the 2D Zelda games are far and above the better games.

My bad. Now that I think about it, that was Majora's Mask, wasn't it? I didn't like that one either, so it just blended together I guess.

Rather than Tingle in OoT, you've got the owl that gives you an earful. I liked him better in Link's Awakening.I'm not saying OOT isn't a quality game.....it is. I just never got into it. I reallywas raised on the 2D versions, and still find those to be the better games....especially ALTTP. But for newer style Zelda, Wind Waker was just artistry in motion. That game still takes my breath away when I pop it in to play it. The controls are spot on, and the cell shading is some of the most beautiful artwork I have ever seen in a game. I love the sailing too.
But....if I have to chose a winner, it is A Link To The Past.
Maybe if OOT would have been my first Zelda I may have a different feeling.
I haven't liked anything after ALTTP on older, and WW on newer.
I had buddies that loved and still love OOT though
(I'm also a guy who adores Skies of Arcadia, so I can understand holding a major torch for a game. It's just not OOT for me.)
