How come every time a new action-adventure game comes out,it seems that a lot of people dismiss it and call it a GOW clone? Its a genre of games, and God of War was not the first game made with that type of gameplay. Im just trying to understand why people dismiss games so quickly because it has similar gameplay to GOW.

Well... Dante's Inferno *IS* a God of War clone. And Castlevania: Lords of Shadow seems to be taking a large amount of inspiration from God of War's gameplay. Bayonetta is entirely different, and is much more of a "DMC clone" than anything else, but better. I personally have never seen anyone say that Bayonetta is a clone of anything.

And in the end, God of War is merely just a clone of Devil May Cry anyways.

And they are action games, not action-adventure.

Wasnt sure if they were action or action adventure thank you. Well my favorite genres are these action games and rpgs, so i guess im just voicing my frustration, I hate when I see a game coming out and am excited about and people bash it because they think it looks like a GOW clone. Just because its an action game doesnt mean its the same as GOW.

Because people are dumb.

Any game that has big suits and a cover system will be named a Gears clone.

Any game with a post-apocalyptic setting will be called a Fallout 3 clone

Any sandbox game with a mature plot will be called a GTA clone.

Despite taking a lot of inspiration from GoW, I found Dante's Inferno to be a really enjoyable game. There's little special about God of War anyway. It's just another action game filled with gore and attitude to suit the overly macho Kratos. It's good, but not as good as the fans say it is.

I actually liked Dante's inferno too, GOW clone or not. Just because something is similar doesnt mean it cant be good. Any I agree with your other games people call clones, give it a rest give all games a chance!

Clones have been around since the inception of the video game. Hell, Breakout is essentially a Pong clone, except the only opponent is yourself and a bunch of bricks. Look at all the 2D platformers - the genre itself is NAMED after the very concept it describes, jumping around on platforms, basically saying every game in that genre is a clone of every game prior to it. Perhaps it's each generation of gamers is more and more easily bored. People have to face the fact that after a certain point, there just isn't any more ideas left.

because most of them are. It's a tad annoying for people who don't like GoW. Bayonetta isn't though. It's using Devil May Cry's system. I would like that genre more if the mechanics were more original or were changed.
