Like a game they used to really enjoy, is suddenly not a good game when the next gen is out and graphics have improved.
You played the game before and highly enjoyed it, what makes it so different now?

I still enjoy older games. I don't see why someone wouldn't still enjoy games they liked in the past.
inb4 standards change
Theres more to it then graphics, older games old gameplay. We mature we become more complex andalsoexpect a certain amount of fidelity. Were limited by hardware of the time when its upgraded we change focus to what new and better. Out with the old in with the new...
Or we'd still be playing 8 bit games.
It doesn't make the old stuff bad, just not as good as the new stuff. The industry is moving forward why wouldn't you.
Graphics is not the only difference btw this gen games and last gen games. If an old gen game isn't considered fun anymore people will usually point to the fact thatgraphics PLUS gameplay elements have changed between gens.
If you really want to start an anti-graphics thread, you would be better off focusing on an issue that is clearly good graphics versus bad graphics. For instance, maybe talk about how reviewers generally take off points from current gen games when they use last gen graphics even if the gameplay is good (though of course the Wii is an exception to this rule sort of showing that the notion that modern gamers ONLY care about graphics is mostly just a myth.)

Eye strain.
After GTA IV, Grid and Forza on the Xbox 360 and Nascar on the PS3, driving games on the Wii no longer satisfy.
Tuna just doesn't taste the same after you've eaten caviar.
Because for some the better the graphics, the better the game. Yes there are people that only care about eye candy and only buy games that look good (I know atleast 1 myself), then sell them because they get bored of then quickly because they are crap or sell them because a better looking game comes out or a new console with better graphics is out.
I still play my old games, and when I say old game I'm talking about games from the 80's and not just last gen games. I find older games better than most of the games that come out these days because a lot of devolopers care more about the eye candy than the gameplay itself (this is just my opinion anyway).
gymophett is talking about the people that base their opinions on graphics. It has nothing to do with not moving forward. If you liked a game once, then decide you don't like it anymore because of the graphics, that's pretty stupid. You may not like the gameplay as much anymore but that has nothing to do with the topic of this conversation.Theres more to it then graphics, older games old gameplay. When I was a kid, $10 in my pocket was a lot of money to me. Now I'm married, own a house, and have a kid on the way... and $10 in my pocket is nothing to me. Or watch a movie now that gave you nightmares as a kid... it's LOL, right?
It's kinda the same way with games. Things evolve, and it affects your perception.
I'm definitely a snob for graphics. I hate that I go back and play an old game that I fondly remember as looking awesome and being really disappointed by it now. Sure it's still fun to play, but it's not really the same experience.
I think a lot of the old 2D games with hand-drawn graphics hold up very well because they were more about artistic style, but old 3D games were often about the technical wow, and are ridiculous to look at now.
I think it's awesome that a lot of old classics like Resident Evil, WipEout, etc have gotten graphical updates!
As long as the gameplay is solid I pretty much havn't had a problem going back to older games. The only thing that annoys me with older games is when I realise I completely forget how to play the game and it takes some time to get back into the controls.
Its unfortunate console effect. Every time a console comes out. "OH Old games suck!" Which is kind of ironic. Since each time a console gernation comes out, they are already a few months outdated.
But luckily on PC there are no generations. So this effect doesn't happen here. I still find my self enjoying games from the 90s, and early 00s.
I'm an old-school gamer and I do enjoy a game with great graphics, but it's not mandatory. I like greatmusic, characters, story, and gameplay as well. As long as those things aregreat I could care less about how a game looks because no amount of shiny paint can hide a flawed or rushed game.;)
If I had a PS2 or if my PS3 was backwards compatible, I'd be playing a crapload of PS2 games. Megaman X, DragonBall Z, WWF. But, I don't have a backwards compatible PS3 or a PS2. I don't really play a lot of games. Last game I got that sucked with terrible graphics and gameplay that I wasn't really into was Homefront. Game was super terrible to me.

Well for new gamers the old games looks like pixels jumping around
Old gamers i think they will not have a problem playing or re-playing a very good old game
i recently played FFVII on a 47 inces tv anything 3d looked like it was made from lego bricks but i dint have a problem.
i also enjoy sonic for genesis and many other old games but i cant play a 16 color pc game becouse i never played a 16 color pc game(i was too young back then)someone who was playing these 16 color games back theni dont think he will have a problem play them and now
I once held the view that graphics were completely irrelevant, if the gameplay was good enough that was all that mattered, but now my opinion has changed. Graphics do matter, and they do affect my enjoyment of a game. I'll be real about it. Case in point: in anticipation of the upcoming Deus Ex game, I bought the original off of Steam. While the gameplay is as strong as ever, the graphics are TERRIBLE, to the point of taking away from the enjoyment for me.
The games that age well are games whose visual design is very stylistic (Wind Waker, Super Metroid, Shadow of the Collosus, for examples), and relies more on that aspect than on technical merit alone.
