But i was sitting down to play it the other night going through my games and man... Most of the games for the system have been ported to xbox live arcade or other systems there arent to many exlusives for the system anymore how do you guys feel about dreamcast collecting when most of it's games can be played elsewhere a lot of the times better.

In a way the Dreamcast is kinda an Xbox prequel. MS did provide Windows CE and did consider buying SEGA. It was almost a trail run for MS before the original Xbox was released. The Dreamcast was ahead of it's time in some ways.

It does seem Microsoft and even Nintendo later on with the Wii U took some inspiration of the Dreamcast console. The last CD Rom console and Sega's Swan Song. I that a chance of buying a Dreamcast for $20.00 so I'm consdering it.

I feal that Sega should have continued with the Dreamcast instead of turtling up and dying.

I felt it was the best last gen console for local multiplayer:

Quake 3

Unreal Tournament

Power Stone 2

Marvel vs Capcom

Dead or Alive 2

Soul Calibur

Test Drive Le Mans

Rush 2049

I personally love the system and still play it all the time. My personal favorites for the console are its arcade perfect ports of awesome Sega games from the late 90s and early 2000s. I have very fond memories of the Dreamcast during its hayday and still love it.

\ How did the Wii U take form the dreamcast? Also, Street Fighter III strike alone is worth a dreamcast. Which is the only actual retail console version if IIRC. The new online one is garbage.

It was included on the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for the PS2 and I believe the XBOX. I prefer the Dreamcast version though since all fighting games seem to play better on the console imo.

i DON'T recall (lol caps lock) the Xbox version, however, the PS2 version is poorly emulated, i prefer the stand-alone retail version of the game. The only other version of that game which is playable, LEGALLY is the DLC versions for 360/PS3.

Also, I find the Dreamcast Stick to be way better than almost every other stick for fighting games. May not be the best for 3D games all the time, but it works for games that require fast reflexes.

4 words come to mind concerning the Dreamcast:

  1. Fun - Great library of games of both Dreamcast originals and multiplatform games. Some of the best versions of some multiplatform games.
  2. Sad - Because it was Sega's last console and the plug was pulled on it way too soon. It had plenty of kick left in it.
  3. Cool - It just looks cool. The controller and the VMU really stand-out and it looks great in your collection.
  4. Loud - The machine itself is a beast. Sounds like it's about to fly out of the room, sometimes.

As for most the games being ported to other systems, you just aren't looking hard enough. There are still some great Dreamcast exclusives:

  • Air Force Delta
  • Carrier (okay, it's just a Resident Evil rip-off, but it's a good one)
  • Crazy Taxi 2
  • Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm
  • Dynamite Cop
  • Giga Wing 1 & 2
  • Elemental Gimmick Gear
  • Maken X
  • Metropolis Street Racer
  • Power Stone 1 & 2
  • Sega Rally Championship 2
  • Shenmue
  • Typing of the Dead
  • WWF: Royal Rumble (Different than the SNES/Genesis game of the same title)

I got this system at the beginning of 2001, so it was already on the decline. But it was the ultimate exotic system IMO. I was tired of Playstation, I really maxed out the PSX. The Nintendo love was over for me as well. I never took any interest in Sega until I started reading about the Dreamcast being in development, I played it when I was visiting my first game fair, Sonic Adventure back then, wow. When it actually came out I was in Ireland and the shops were stocked with Sega goodies, the graphics excited me alot, and everything about the system from look to feel hit the spot. I was a poor teenager so I got it quite late, but it was my favorite system, still buying games for it.

Best Sega console by far.

Too bad it has very cheap plastic, so it becomes yellow in the sun.

I could be wrong but I believe that is due to some kind of anti flammable agent. The console itself is constructed very nicely--the controller is trash though.

I know for sure that the anti-flammable agent you speak of are in the early runs of SNESs, so it's very likely.

Its competition was much better IMO, but any console that has such masterpieces as Skies of Arcadia and the Shenume games on it is a good console in my book.

I dug mine out in the recent past and did my best to play it pretty exclusively but honestly had a harder time than expected.  I don't know if it was a framerate issue or what, but after a few hours it was making me feel a little motion sick.  Especially Ecco the Dolphin but even much slower games like Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.  Still a classic system to me but staring to show its age technologically.

dreamcast is the system with probably the best framerates of any system ever released. right now most games are 30 fps, on dreamcast many were 60 fps and people thought it was the future, but it wasn't framerate is very overrated over 30. since our eyes can barely detect the difference. however you might just be motion sick
