I'm 16 years old and I Don't have a job so I really can't get that many games a year. My dad only buys 1 game every 2 months for me, excluding birthdays and holidays, and as a teenager theres no way I can save up my allowance to buy games, just too much other stuff that I need to spend it on. but when I go here I see so many people saying "oh I have so many games to buy this month" how do you guys get them? btw this question is only for those without a job like me

One game every two months? Consider yourself lucky.

Before I had a job (back in the Coleco/Intellivision days), gifts and mooching were a good source. Or I'd borrow game cartridges from relatives who also still game to this day. Nothing wrong with mooching so long as it's the right person. We've all been there before.

Only? Yeesh. When I was in high school, my parents didn't buy me games at all. I might get a couple bucks here and there, or do some things for my grandmother. And then I went to GameSpot, and get two games for $5 or something. Hell, a new game every two months? That would have been awesome.

Now-a-days I set aside a little bit of my per-capita income (I'm in a Native American tribe. It's not government welfare and if I get over $600 it's taxable by the IRS.) to buy games. Not much, but if you're patient you can get a game or two monthly easily.

Why are some of you guys flaming me? I only asked a question

btw I Only have one console right now a Wii. also I don't have any handhelds, until 3DS comes out I'm going to have to save up my birthday and Eid money (Which i already have) for about half of it, and my Dad has to blow off buying me games for a few months for the other half. I'm just saying I always see people on the internet (teens like me) who say "I'm going to buy the 3DS", "I'm going to buy this many games during this month" I Just wanna know how

how do i afford my games? A monthly pass at blockbuster where i rent as many as i want and keep them as long as i want...for only $30 a month, if you can get there early you never have to wait till u have enough money. The only game i bought this year is BFBC2, most games dont have enough variety/choices to play through the SP more then once and most MP isn't fun enough to play more then 20+hrs

Well, you're not spoiled. One day you'll thank your parents one day for not buying you every game you want. When I was a kid my parents would only get me video games on my birthday and for Christmas. That was like only 2-4 games a year for me. When I got your age, 16, I got a job and was able to buy my own games. Get a job.

I have the money but I hate spending a lot at one time, I usually get a lot of games on Christmas and my birthday, except when it is a big release and I can't wait for my birthday or Christmas for it.

As soon as I heard about the Nintendo Dolhpin, back around the year 2000, I started saving all of my money. Mum and Dad gave me $5 a week (that's about US$3.50) for allowance when I was a teenager (2001) so I started to save that every week. I also did some odd jobs (ask people if they want their lawns mowed), I managed to save about $600. That got me a GCN, Tony Hawk's Proskaker 3 and Star Wars Rogue Squadron (and a few extra things, e.g. memory card etc.).

Mum and Dad never got me any games or anything else, only that $5 a week. Getting a Gamecube is one of my proudest achievements. Before that I just mooched off my brother who owned a NES, SNES, 64 etc,

When I turned 15, I got a job. That's how I bought games from then on.

So yeah, just go get a job man.

When I was a kid, I would only get games maybe 3-4 times per year from my parents-- 2 of those times were at birthday and Christmas. I teach now, so that's where most of my game funding comes from.

I'm a PC gamer and use steam, so the couple dollars i have in spare change is enough to buy me tons of games (use someone elses credit card and just give them the money). I've probably spent $30 in games in the last year and I got probably 10-15 games.

Now I have a job, but before, I remember using my scholarship and student loan. When I was younger, I used the money my mother used to give me for lunch and bus... I walked home and went hungry most day....

You can say I'm lucky when it comes to games, I have an uncle who spoiled me by bringing me tons of games every now and then. Not to mention that piracy is pretty much legal here, not something to brag about, but buying games ain't a big deal here.

Your lucky bro, 1 game every 2 months is fantastic. I only get 1 game for my Birthday and Christmas. Then I'm on my own for the rest of the year. I'm also 16 and unemployed.

I make money by helping my older brother out with his scrap. He works on lawn mowers a lot and always has the bodies piling up so when he goes to the scrap yard I ask him if I can make a few dollars if I help him load the stuff up. He usually treats me nicely and gives me a bonus $10.00 so I have more money to spend on games.

Another thing that I do is sell old video games that I have or controllers. Never consoles though.

Mowing lawns can make you money and sometimes cleaning sheds for people. One time me and my older brother were walking down the street and some old lady shouted to us saying $5.00 each if you help me clean out my shed. Of course we wasted it all on chips and soda. :P

When I was a kid most people here had 8-bit computers like the Spectrum or Commadore 64. The games came on cassette tapes and were cheap to buy. When I was 13 I got a job as a Paperboy and I used to be able to buy 1-2 games a month easily. Before that I used to only buy a small lunch at school and keep the change each day from my lunch money. I bought a few games that way.

You should be happy with how much games they are buying you. Mine parents never bought me game in my life, never even ask them to. All games I have are bought with money that I saved. So glad that now I'am at college and I have a job,so I don't have to worry about that anymore:P

This is a good point. There are a ton of sales on Steam, and you can get quite a library for a few bucks.

I usually wait for games to drop in price. I buy very few games at full price when they've only just been released. The last game I bought around the time it was released was Red Dead Redemption.... before that it was Fallout 3.... I also buy games second-hand if I have to.

I was in the exact same situation as a kid. Christmas and birthdays. Thankfully, I also had two brothers with similar interests, so that added up to 4 games a year usually. If I wanted anymore, I saved my allowance. Usually I could get at least one of my brothers to pitch it, and we'd each save our allowance each week. We each got 5 dollars a week, so yeah, it took a while. But we figured it was worth it. And I enjoyed the gamesa whole lot more than than I do now. I almost wish I DIDN'T have the money to buy all the games I want. Since they don't feel as special anymore.

Before I got a job my parents didn't buy me squat for games.

Get a job. As soon as you get your licence, get a job. Working 10 hours a week at minimum wage will earn you enough for a new game every week. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's really not. It's nice to have an income. You'll enjoy being able to do some stuff without begging your parents for money.

Let's say you made 80 dollars a week, every two weeks that's about $140 after taxes. That's either two games or one game every two weeks and you still have cash to burn. Throw it in a savings account for something bigger. Financial freedom from your parents is really quite awesome. You have to put some effort in yourself, but you can take more pride in the stuff you buy.

Nowadays I have a job, but when I was younger I just saved all the money I came by. My parents have bought videogames for me twice; a Gameboy Color with Pokémon Yellow when I was 11, and a gift card at EB Games/Gamestop when I was 14 years old. If my parents would have bought a video game for me every 2 months when I was younger (as is the case with one of the previous posters), I would have been incredibly happy.

I make a savings plan off of my lunch money. Example, with FO:NV coming out in 4 weeks, thats $160 initially, but $94 after I buy the game, plus taxes. That means I still can spend about $22.75 per week. I don't really need to buy lunch anyway, besides the occasional dollar menu burger or two piece @ Popeyes.

I have chores, and my neighbor goes away often and I get money (alot) for watering her plants. That and sitting with a large group of people who know I love money they wont use (sutff like pennys or quarters and on the occassions 1's) My parents let me keep left over lunch money. And then theres relatives, birthdays and christmas. I can probably get 5 games a year, excluding holdiays, birthdays.
