just curious how it is

The game is really good. Best combat ever in an mmo. Gives oppurtunity for players who have skill to be better then your average player. Offers alot of depth in term of Combat. PVE Combat is amazing you are always engaged in the fight. PVP is the best ive played, if you master your class you will destroy people. Graphics (environment, gear, mobs) are amazing. Has a asian art style which is offputting but easy to get over.
Questing - go here kill this. Just that but thats all mmos really have to offer. If your looking for lore you won't find it. If you are looking for amazing pvp and good combat this game is on awhole new level. Makes guild wars 2 combat feel horrible.
Its worth it, you should try the beta. The game is defnitely gonna be a hidden gem with false hype being around gw 2 .
Good I can't stand casuals and winers your more than welcome not to play this game but it is fun period.
The hyped combat system is more of a useless gimmick than a benefitial feature. The regions are so small and cluttered that you'll find yourself accidentally shooting the mobs of other players or mobs that get in the way. You can't kite at all and when mobs spawn in front of you, it's instant aggro after you hit them. There's no warning or time to change your poition so you don't hit them.
The quests are ULTRA boring. The game feels like it was quickly slapped together with good looks and a heavily advertised "true action combat" system which utterly blows chunks. The only good thing I have to say about this game are the graphics.

I've played the 3rd and last closed beta.
I enjoyed it for about 4 hours. The combat was pretty fun, the UI was great and the graphics were nice (they reminded me of KoA for some reason) but that's about it. I was interested in the game but what really turned me off was the fact that if I were to make 1 of each class then I'd have to grind through the same areas and hit the same quests over and over again. At least with the other MMOs I've played, namely WoW, EQ2 and Rift, there were multiple pathways you could take to level so you wouldn't have to see the same area over and over again.
The quests were what really killed it for me though. I was extremely surprised to see that I had to kill the same kind of mobs for multiple quests (god damn ghilliedhus). I can't speak for the late game, but the early game didn't hook me enough to make me want to play more. And yes, all MMOs have the same kind of quests. It boils down to kill X, get X, find X, escort Y and go to X. But the most important thing is how the devs put the icing on the quests so they're worth doing and remotely interesting.
Here's an example of a quest in WoW I really enjoyed:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wwfsZyHeXE
The fact that you only played for 4 hours really shows in your main complaint. If you get a little farther you will see that at certain levels quests will open up in the main hubs that will direct you to other areas. For example, if you are questing in lumbertown you have the option of following the story quests through that area entirely, but once you get to a certain point a new quest npc will open up which will direct you to tugwani mire. Point being, I got to 32 in the open beta and 20 in the closed and I didn't touch quite a few of the areas that were open to me for leveling. If I wanted to reroll, I would easily be able to avoid going to the same areas.
The combat system takes a little bit of getting used to, but if you value an element of skill you will come to love it. Personally, I like knowing that with enough practice I could pull off a 4v1 based solely on the fact that I am better than the people I am facing, not that they have the optimal spec and the best raiding gear and an inherent badassness that comes along with being that class alone. That is garbage to me.
The one complaint that I would validate here would be the questing. It does become very monotonous, and I stopped reading the quest text after a while. There are surely times when you end up killing the same things more than once and a lot of the time you will see recycled mobs of varying sizes which doesn't help the case. Questing is what it is, and there is nothing really new here, it is the same thing you will find in WoW or SW:TOR minus the forced dialogues.
What I find to be the most engaging in this game so far is the PVP. The guild system in conjunction with the PVP makes it all that much better. You are also able to flag yourself individually for PVP and be able to attack anyone at any time, but I don't have much experience with the "outlaw" mechanic so I won't talk about it. My experience with the guild war system is a good one. Guild seem to be willing to meet up for massive GvG pvp battles, which require a fair amount of coordination and skilled players to win. There are a lot of strategic elements involved in GvG. We had a GvG where we were battling a guild, and they had secretly become allies with another guild we were warring with. They ended up coordinating and flanking us which put us too far behind to win. I thought that was awesome, even when losing.
This is already way too long so ill wrap it up. I don't know if this will be enough to pull you away if you're engaged in another game, but I don't play anything other than Skyrim right now and i'm looking for a good new MMO and I this looks like the one for me.
One last thing, I HAVE DIABLO 3 BETA ACCESS AND BASED ON THE TWO BETAS I WOULD DEFINITELY PICK TERA.
TL: DR - Varying quest paths, good skill based combat system, boring questing, PVP is awesome, especially GvG.
The fact that you only played for 4 hours really shows in your main complaint.jareedI think Kevin VanOrd said it best in the comments of the Tera Open Beta Live Stream:
I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect a game to be fun in the first 10 or 15 hours. If a game doesn't get good until you have played it for 15 hours, that's not the fault of the player--it's the fault of the game.Kevin-VI'd go a step further and say that if a game is not entertaining in the two hours, about the same duration as a full-length feature film, it isn't doing it's job. I've put in about 15 hours between the closed- and open-beta, and the combat system becomes more and more compelling, but it just doesn't compensate for so many of the games pitfalls, particularly where you can only really level effectively by questing, and the relatively linear questing path versus established MMORPG titles.
WoW opened leveling by battlegrounds for a reason: People want variety when starting a new character. With a dozen starting areas and the ability to level your character through PvP, instances, and even gathering, new MMOs must meet at least this standard of variety in leveling, in my opinion. I quested through the starting island on three characters, and it was barely tolerable on the first.
An excellent battle system, slick interface, graphics, animations, models, and audio do not compensate for the face that Tera is literally a chore to play.
Happy gaming,
Boz

There are actually several things preventing me from getting Tera.
D3 on the other hand, I will be getting. I know at least 6 people I can group with and there's no silly segregation policy when it comes to server groups and regions.
I have pre-ordered Tera and played the last 2 betas.
Do the quests, lore and voiceacting, crafting suck? Yes, this is typical of Asian games. One day I hope we get a western MMO with Asian graphics and combat and the rest done by westerners.
The combat is fun I haven't been able to play tab targeting games since then after a couple of minutes I log back off. With glyphs, enchants and weapon/armor crystals your character will not always be the same as others of your class and you will most likely have several types of glyph/crystal builds depending on what your doing.
Grindy? I don't find Tera grindy at all. Hardcores can hit 32 in less than a day. Quests will level you super fast and it so much exp you will end up being 3-4 levels above your quests at times because there are so many. Also, most quests you can get a repeat of and then keep killing the mobs and then turn in them all later. I farmed some BAMs with my friends for awhile and we all had 10 turn ins for quests afterwards. We didn't need to run and turn in every 4 kills.
The graphics are amazing. The World is huge and beautiful and I enjoy exploring and most of it is seemless. Instead of maps lets call them countries broken up into counties, you can go to all of the counties and countries not seperated by water seemlessly. If this game had fishing I would spend hours fishing in areas because it looks good.
Clutter, Yes to me clutter is a huge thing it adds life to areas. You will find lots of clutter in this game along with furniture, boxes desks with stuff on them. No empty rooms with just npcs. The water areas have seeweed and fish swimming around, the sky has birds and hawks.
This is the first game in awhile where I actually like my character and want an alt of every class.
If your bored of slow paced stand still combat or pvp where the only tactic is to bunny hop while swinging your sword. You will enjoy Tera combat and pvp. Also there is no stealth in Tera, you will see your enemies coming and not just when your fighting a mob at 20%.
those WoW quests like Gnomebliteration are few and far between. but that's still more than most MMO's are doing to make quests interesting and while objectives of normal quests are always the same at least the writing is good or funny(IMO).Kickable
At least they're there though. Even despite the one-off nutty quests some whole zones are worth doing just for the storyline that runs through the various quests you get. Having well planned and written chain quests really helps pass the time.

You've got the Plants vs. Zombies homage, robot football in the goblin starting area, a "whodunit" in Westfall, the entire quest chain of Redridge Mountains is funny and entertaining with its Rambo tribute, you've got Lunk's quest line in Searing Gorge, everything both Alliance and Horde in Swamp of Sorrow is epic and a ton of fun- Blizzard completely upped the standards of questing in Cataclysm. Sure, there are still a bunch of gathering and killing quests, but they are much, much more entertaining on the whole than WotLK and earlier, and far superior to any other MMO currently available (full disclosure: I stopped playing WoW in Jan, and do not play an MMO currently). That said, we'll see about Guild Wars 2. I haven't had a chance to watch Kevin-V's stream of the beta, yet. Happy gaming, Boz
I've only gotten to 30 so far and i'm reallying digging it. Its not the game changer that most people may have expected it to be, but the combat is a nice refresher. Everything else what you've probably played before with AMAZING graphics. i dont think this game is for everyone, but the community is pretty nice (so far) and helpful. I'd recommend.
For those interested, I have a guild in TERA. It's actually a GiantBomb guild but I'd happily accept any GameSpot members.
The guild is rather dead atm (only have 25-ish members) and with Diablo 3 people are more focused on that, myself included but I know I'll be jumping back into TERA soon, I am still paying for it after all lol.
Guild: Good Luck Have Batman
Just let me know you're from GameSpot in the message, I'll create a special rank for GameSpot members, if you can think of a decent title for it let me know. I'll call it GameSpotter for the time being.
it is Tera-bull. I did like it for a while. Combat is the best I found, but the super bland questing killed it for me. However, that is when I was paying monthly for the game. Now that it is FTP, why not give it a try? I can keep you entertained at least for a while.
