Just wonder how is the economy affecting your life as a gamer. As for me the down fall of the economy has put me in great financial stress. Unable to purchase any new games.

Not a lot actually I still have my part-time job so I still my disposable income flowing in that I can spend on games and with the stock market here in Ireland rising I am right now cautiously optimistic about the economy.

I've been recently hiring games rather than buying them, but the prices at the hire shop are going up as well so I may not be able to manage for long.

Only thing affecting me is the $ and Euro both getting stronger which makes it harder slightly for me to get cheaper games via Steam and Gamersgate. Apart from that I'm doing fine.

Actually it's kind of benefitial for me. With the weaker U.S. dollar prices in Canada have matched those in the states, meaning in most cases 10 dollars cheaper! Huzzah.

Where I live in Missouri we have not really started to feel the effects of the economy yet but in the coming months I think I will have a little more trouble buying all the games I want

Not at all. I just got a new job that pays me more than enough to sustain my gaming habits, and still facilitate a move to a new apartment on top of keeping up with my other expenses.

Where I am (Michigan), the problems with the economy are really bad. I've been out of work for a while now (thank you outsourcing) and I haven't been able to buy a new game in quite a long time. On the rare occasions when I can buy a game, its off the used/discount rack. Basically, if a game is more than $20, its not worth it to me, the bills and groceries come first. On the plus side, this has forced me to be more picky with the games I do buy and I end up getting better quality games, even if they aren't new.

Well most significantly is just from normal inflation causing games to reach 60$ for new games. This in turn raised the prices at my rental store. And now for the latest effect......my rental store used to charge 10$ for a 50% 30 day discount that covered movies and games. Now the buttholes are charging 10$ just for movies and 15$ for movies AND games.

Besides directly everything else going up means you have less to spend on the stuff you want and EVERYTHING is going up in price and for no reason.

Adjusting the prices of last gen games and games from the generation before that for inflation makes them even more expensive than games' current price.

I'm definitley not buying new games as much as I use to. I've been cutting back and renting and then just purchasing a couple a month as opposed to buying every game that interests me. Fortunelty I can say I'm still working and everything it's just that the basic stuff has gotten too expensive (food, gas) so I have to cut back somewhere.

I buy my games when they get a price reduction, they are rrp £40-50 over here but I tend to pay £10-20 at most and I just wait a couple of months. I have more important things to buy than games, but doing things this way I have plenty to play.

plus I rent them when they are new 8)

Just gas really for now. I'd rather buy a DS or PSP game for the price of a full tank gas. But since I need to put in gas, I don't have any money left.

Not at all.

I haven't been affected by the economy... I live in Chicago, and I take my bike and ride the CTA, so I don't need to buy gas. Business is booming at the company where I work, I'm sure I'll get another raise this year.

Even if my expenses did go up, it wouldn't matter ... games just aren't that big of portion of my income.

Replacing my roof and tuckpointing my building... now those are big-ticket items.

It hasn't hurt me, yet. I can still purchase games freely, but nothing new. I can only get old, or used games..which doesn't bother me one bit! :)

Not at all. Even though the hotel I work at has been closed for the last 4 months, I've been able to stay on payroll along with my staff while the owners twiddle their thumbs over how they're going to fix the place.

Then I also do catering on the side and I have the reserves so I'm in the same position as before just doing less actual work.

one word, goozex!! It is amazing how much money I have saved just by trading a game straight up for another one. The only problem lies with wanting a brand new really popular one. So those ones I usually cant wait to get in the mail so I'll buy those once in a while. Something like resistance 2 I will not wait on.

Also I find I've been playing downloadable games alot more than full retail ones. Super Stardust HD kept me busy for a looong time. And the pixel junk series

It's probably scared me a little bit. It won't scare me out of paying full price in the coming months for the games I want, but I was originally planning to get a PS3 this fall and now probably won't do that unless there's a great deal on it. I haven't been too hurt by it other than losing probably about 15-20% of my retirement and investments, but I am worried and am starting to hold on to my money more.

Like zero effect. I personally have not really played any games since summer more than some random 5 minute spurts of CoD4, Guitar Hero and super mario galaxy. Its more me being pre-med than economically stressed. But I can see that food prices are sky rocketing, gas is still high.
