I like my games like I like my women...8 and up.
ok that was a joke but some games are fine by me if they don't last long as long as they provide entertainment and don't get boring before it's over.
For me:
Action Adventure: 12 hours
FPS: 9 hours
RPG: 30 hours
Sandbox: 50 hours
For me it has to do with the range of things to do, or the tradition. So if I sat down with and RPG and after 10 hours was told "Game Over" I'd be a bit miffed. But after 8 hours with and FPS I've pretty much had enough.
The longer the better. I'm paying about 60 dollars for a game and I sure don't want a 6 -8 hour game.
When I find out a game will be just a few hours ( 10-12), I refuse to buy it.
I've never rushed through a game just to brag about how long it took me to complete it either.
I'll play a game on a higher difficulty level if one is provided, just to extend the time I spend playing it.
And of course for the added challenge.
A good example:
As nice as Heavy Rain is forcasted to be....it's reported to be only 10-12 hours long. I will not be buying it.
Hmm...I would say between 15 - 50 hours.
FPS would be 15 hours
RPG Would be 25 or so
Sandbox games would be 50 hours if you stick to the main storyline, even longer if you do side quests and additional options.
Adventure games would be around 30 hours.
Since everybody uses this analogy, I also like it like my women. I like them to last.

At least 20-30 hours (any genre). But actually it's the days I count. I want my games to last at least 15 days. So if I know the game is short, I only play it at maximum of 1 hour a day or like this in some games:
Shadow of the Colossus - 1 colossus a day
God of War games - 2 save points a day
GTA games - 3 missions a day
Hitman series - 1 mission a day
I feel robbed if I beat a game in less than 20 hours. IMO, the price of the game should be based on how short or long it is, except for some great games like MGS series.
Personally if the game is something I'm really into (rpg) then I'd want it to be 50 hrs+. Sometimes the story is so good, you just don't want it to ever end.
I usually spend 70+ hrs on an rpg.
