We always hear about complaints of COD rehashes. So I'm just wondering how many of them you actually bought? This can be seen as a measure of the core gamers (people on forums like Gamespot) who actually supported the annual installments persisting.

I'm limiting the games to PS3/360/Wii generation of CODs (also counts if you played it on PC during that generation).

Here is the list of CODs:

- COD 3

- COD 4: Modern Warfare

- COD: Modern Warfare 2

- COD: Modern Warfare 3

- COD: World at War

- COD: Black Ops

- COD: Black Ops 2

- COD: Ghosts

So there are 8 games, how many did you play?

I played 1, World at War on the Wii.

I bought and played 7. The only one I didn't get was CoD 3. I really enjoyed them all, although World at War was my least favourite.

I dunno. How many had Zombies mode in them? I'm also a bit unsure where the gen began in terms of Call of Duty. Wasn't CoD2 on the 360 at launch?

After the Infinity Ward fallout and the creators being shown the door I only bought a copy once there were used copies available so the money went to Gamestop instead of Activision. So "Support" is a tricky word. Maybe 2 of them?

Ah you are right.

Doesn't look like I can edit my post? Wtf Gamespot... This is really bugging me now. May as well close the thread because it's wrong.

Edit: Okay I'm just going to have to justify it by saying "we'll start when CODs were hitting all the last gen platforms" lol.

Last gen I only bought Call of Duty Classic on PSN, and I didn't end up liking it very much. I bought Ghosts on Xbone when it launched because I wanted more games to play, and it wasn't that bad really. Don't see the fuss about it.

I've purchased every COD game this generation. I tend not to jump on the hatewagon that others do. I play a wide variety of games and support stuff that I find enjoyable. I have yet to play an outright bad COD game. It's a quality series. It shouldn't win any GOTY awards but they are well made games and offer up a lot of content.

Do you feel that with each new installment, that there was a lot different with the previous installment? Every time? Genuinely interested in your response. Because I get the feeling that players are somewhat "forced" in a sense to get the new game because they don't want to fall behind on what people are playing. Kind of like watching a football season of the year before; you're out of date and you should keep up and watch the current season of football games. This is the sense I get from it. Do you feel this way at all?

I said 3.

I really liked the MP from MW2. I supported Black Ops and WaW just for zombies.

WaW campaign was good and Black OPs arcade game was fun as well.

I played all of theme to be honest, I enjoy there subtle differences enough to gain hours of joy from one title to another, though I agree that they're rehashes.. I'd never deny that haha but I guess it's hard to break old habits :D

I wasn't fussed on COD 4: Modern Warfare, and disliked the multiplayer, and would have called it a day after that one. However, I decided to get COD: World At War when it was released, because of the WW2 setting and campaign. That was the last in the series for me - so I supported 3 games, COD 3, 4 and 5.

Zero

Played a little of 4 at a friends house. The campaign was painfully linear and so heavily scripted I felt like I was basically just 'along for the ride', while popping a few guys along the way. The constant respawning and health regeneration is atrocious also. MP made me feel like a crackhead with everybody running around like lunatics on these tiny maps. Way too mindless & twitchy for me.

Had to go home and fire up some good military FPS like Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear and Ghost Recon 1 to wash that terrible taste out of my mouth.

CoD 2, so I'll go for one. I only play on pc, I'm not a huge fan of realistic modern day settings and I don't like (and also suck at) MP, so the other CoD's weren't for me... ;-)

Modern Warfare was my only purchase, I tried MW2, but lost any and all interest in the series because of the ridiculous perks. Rented Ghosts by curiosity and oh god was it horrible. The singleplayer was only second to Rogue Warrior in how horrid it was and the Multiplayer...well I noticed they didn't get any better with the perks and killstreaks.

I have played every COD game since COD 2, EXCEPT for BLOPS2.

However, I don't support most of them.

I support COD2, COD3, World At War, and Black Ops.

All the others can go to hell. ESPECIALLY Ghosts. I really fucking hated Ghosts.

one. I bought call of duty 4: modern warfare to play with some of my friends. I quickly realized after the fast follow up of MW2 that it was gonna be cookie-cutter/rehash city so I stopped buying 'em.

@trugs26:

I feel like each new entry offers up something different from the year before. Whether it be weapon handling, map design, loadouts and so on. It just brings a change of pace that helps kill any fatigue that might be creeping up on me. But that is not to say that I feel each new installment offers up a ton of new content and features. Some entries offer more than others. I usually find myself leaning towards Treyarch games more so than Infinity Ward when it comes to new features and ways to play.

I'm also a fan of the single player portion of the games, while I don't consider them great by any means I do manage to have a good time regardless. For instance I have played through Black Ops 2's campaign 3 times now.

Of course some entries are better than others but I have yet to play a bad Call Of Duty game. Black Ops 2 alone introduced a number of new features such as customizable loadouts within the campaign, Strikeforce missions, branching story choices and access kits as well as a brand new setting with 2025, which of course brings with it a slew of new weapons and equipment. For Zombies it offered Tranzit, new modes and customizable match options. For multiplayer it brought League Play, 3 Team Deathmatch, the new Pick 10 Loadout system, CODcasting, improved Theater mode, emblem creator and more. To say that COD is copy and paste is just ignorant.

But I feel no need to jump on the new entry every year. I actually skipped MW2 and MW3. I eventually picked them up years later but if I feel I don't need the new entry just yet I will gladly take a year or so off from the series. Heck, even though I purchased Ghosts my main COD is still Black Ops 2. Hopefully this gives you some insight.

I really hope that the people saying zero aren't the same that hate on these games. I honestly don't understand the hate. I personally only bought cod 3 and 4, and I've played the rest... I don't like them, but plenty of other people do so what's the big deal? Pokemon is the definition of rehash and assasins creed isn't far behind. Apprently they have a big fanbase and thus continue to be released. So I guess my answer is actually 2, but I've played them all.

Zero. The only COD game I've played is Black Ops at a mate's house. And the funny thing is that we enjoyed the Dead Ops Arcade shmup minigame more than the main game itself.

Since you say bought, I can only count 3:

  • World at War
  • MW2
  • Black Ops

But I did play Modern Warfare briefly before MW2 came out just to see how it was like. I rented MW3 mainly to confirm that I was getting sick of the series, which I was after playing Black Ops for a while. It feels nice abandoning the franchise, though I honestly did enjoy most of the massive time I spent on World at War and MW2.

The #s of haters in this thread is too damn high! If you don't like the game, just don't ****ing play it. Simple. You're just promoting COD even more.

I own 0 CODs BTW.

I have played COD 2 (even if it was on the Wii) and I have to say, it wasn't bad at all! T'was the best World War 2 FPS I've played. Plot and gameplay were both good.

Then I've also played MW 2 -- best COD I've played. Fun and addictive~

I've played BLOPS Zombies as well and it got bland after half-an-hour, I swear. x_x

Overall, COD is a good series. A good twitch FPS if it's your type of game and it contains a good multiplayer with lots of repay value. But I have to say, none of the of it's games these days are worth full retail price. 60 $ is a joke for a game that's pretty much the same exact thing from it's prequel.

Though, I agree it can get boring really fast.

@contracts420: Thanks for the response. I have nothing against the yearly installments of a franchise, unless it was by means of coercion. But it sounds like they're legitimate installments, which is good to hear.

I'm considering picking one up since it has been so long (only played WaW, which doesn't look anything at all like the modern takes on war). Can you recommend one? Ghost? Blops? Blops 2?

@trugs26:

I would suggest Blops 2 as it features a ton of content and ways to play as well as the most replayable campaign in the series. The game is still extremely active as well. You will need time to adjust, unlock and tweak your loadout as well as understand the maps and best routes. You will learn soon enough though.

Soo basically...... Treyarch are the only ones that are actually trying to do something with this series?

I have always thought so.

@Kevlar101:

Yes, I'd agree with that.

Looking back at Call Of Duty 3, it introduced full vehicle support, classes (medic, support), sprint, mines, a completely new engine. It also brought about the precursor to Killstreaks. Over the course of a match you could rank up your class to level 3 where you could have extra equipment or drop down mortar strikes and such. Keep in mind this game was made in under a year.

With World At War they introduced Nazi Zombies, Co-op campaign, not much new here but a great entry and one of my favourites. They had to make changes to this during development due to COD4's success.

Black Ops brought with it Combat Training against bots, theater mode, custom emblems, Wager matches (Gun Game, Sharpshooter, Sticks and Stones, One in the Chamber), COD points for unlocks, Contracts, Dead Ops Arcade and a completely new setting in Vietnam. Oh and you could have two people play online on the same console in splitscreen, a first for the series.

Black Ops 2 brought Customizable loadouts in the campaign, branching story choices, StrikeForce missions, New setting with 2025, League Play, Customizable Zombies matches and new modes such as Grief, 3 Team Deathmatch, Pick 10 Create a class system (which I'd argue is the biggest addition to multiplayer since the introduction of the original Create a class in COD4), CODcasting, Scorestreak system and more.

I always look forward to what Treyarch does with their COD titles. Great to know that Treyarch will now get a 3 year development cycle moving forward, should be great.

##My first Call of duty game was COD 4 modern warfare, I really enjoyed it. Then I played World at war, I hated it wasn't big fan of the gameplay and hated the engine.

Then came out MW2, I loved it at how fluent and it was a whole new engine which made it a great game. The simplicity of the class set up made it a good game because if gamers get it straight away then they play it more.

Black Ops came out in 2010, It was an ok game but wasn't a big fan of it, again due to the game engine I did not like.

MW3 2011 It was a great game, but I do have to take credit away from MW3 as it was no significant improvement from MW2 but still a great game.

Black Ops 2 It was a good game, massive improvement from the first sequel but few things in MY OPINION that let it down was that it was set in the future and it had really bad servers.

Ghosts..... As you may noticed there was a pattern going on which my fav COD's were, If you haven't noticed I prefer the games made by Infinity Ward than Treyarch. But this game was something else. Infinity Ward have taken 2 steps back with this game as it looks like a MW2 game, I did say I liked MW2 but the way it forward not going 2 steps back, which is what they have done.

Interesting to see on what Sledgehammer games have to offer.

I owned COD 2 and the first modern warfare game. MW I played only single player (and never beat it). Oh yeah, forgot about World at War (which I think was 5 and set in vietnam?). I played COD 2 online a bit during LAN parties. Coming from a heavy Quake 1/2/3 background I wasn't really impressed. Matches quickly devolved to 1 shotting with the sniper rifle. Definitely not a fan of military shooters (although Bad Company 2 was fun online on the PS3).

I supported 2 or 3 COD's on the PS2 but only bought BF3 on PS3 (and traded it in after like a week).

MMS's just aren't my bag at all.
