buy a game, finish it, buy a game, finish it, buy a game, finish it ....

I find its better to try to beat the old games before buying the new ones. Or if you friends want to play online with the new game, play the new game with them but don't go through the single player until you beat the single player on the earlier game.

No matter how tempting always finish your current game first. Then, by the time you beat it, the price on the game you want to get will have probably lowered. So in the end, you can have the satisfaction of beating your game, AND buying a new game at a cheaper price!

1st: Yeah I have the same problem...I´m a bit different now...the 360-Archivements somehow keep me gaming and really get me more into a game.

2nd: How many did I beat...100....200...500...I really don´t know.I´m playing for almost 20 years!

I do that too sometimes, but I usually come back to it when I have my "I must finish all my games" urges.

Every Game I own I have completed at least once.

I don't have any advice for you. If I have two or more new games at once I still manage to complete all of them.

To many over the past 25+ years to recall. On my PS2 though, it's a pretty modest 22 games that I've completed. I had the same problem as you; I'd get a few games but never finish them before I start the next one. Then I'd just kinda bounce around as I felt like it. I decided at the beginning of the year that I was going to change that by picking one game, and sticking to it until I beat it. It's been working so far.

I don't understand that problem at all. What's the point of getting so far in a game if you are not going to beat it? The new game you want will still be in stores when you beat the current one. You've only watched half of each movie in your DVD collection? Focus!

Yeah, but how many games nowadays are beat in 2 hours? Plus for me it was kind of a "I'm going to play what I feel like today." I didn't always feel for every game I played that "I MUST BEAT IT". Usually it was a much more relaxed approach. Either that or I'd get to a certain part in a game, get stuck, say to myself "I'm going to take a break from this one for a little while" but the break ends up being much longer than anticipated. But this year I've change my, *ahem*, focus.

Plus most of the games I get I did not get new. I find them on sale, off of eBay, in used-games-stores, so there is no gaurantee I'll find the same deal 6 months from now.
And yes, and it can take me a 2 or 3 months to finish a game, as I don't have the opportunity to play every day, and when I do it's often not for more than an hour at a time. Right now, I'm playing Price of Persia: the 2 Thrones. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the game, and I've been playing since mid-June.

The point of video games is to have fun. As long as you're doing that, I don't care if you beat your games or not. However, if you want to beat your games and feel bad about not doing so, manage your time better and refrain from buying something new. Or buy it and don't play it until you finish the current game. You say you might not find the same deal? Fine. What about after you buy it? The game will still be at home after you finish the current one, yes? Take your time, have fun, and you'll be fine.

MicWazowski
Right. I agree 100%.

However, if you want to beat your games and feel bad about not doing so, manage your time better and refrain from buying something new.

MicWazowski
Okay, when you say "you" do you mean ME, or the general population. If you mean me, this sentence does not apply. I will agree in general though that if someone is not doing something and that makes sad, they should maybe start doing it. Unless that thing is something like arson.

You say you might not find the same deal? Fine. What about after you buy it? The game will still be at home after you finish the current one, yes?

MicWazowski
Right. But again this is only if your main concern is that finishing every game as efficiently as possible. My original reply was just to provide some perspectives as to why this may not be the main preoccupation for some people, only because you said you didn't get why someone not finish a game they started.

Take your time, have fun, and you'll be fine.

MicWazowski
Right. Again I agree 100%. For some, finishing a game is not a prerequisite for the "fun" part.

I've probably beaten around 30-50 games total...around 10 for the 360, maybe 10-15 for the PS2, 1 or 2 for the PC, 3 or 4 for GB, 2 or 3 for DS, 2 for the PSP...currently working on adding 3 more (one PC, one PSP, one 360) to their ranks.

Too many to count. I always finish my games unless I find them boring and pointless, or I just lose interest. Which is only like maybe 4.

I never play other games (that has a story) until I beat the one I'm playing. Whenever I buy 2 games at the same time (never bought 3 or more at the same time), I first try both games then choose which one to finish first. The unchosen game will never be touched until I beat the one I'm playing. I hate leaving games unfinished.

Finishing games is very important to me. Back in the old days when you would buy a CD it came with a collection of songs on it and to really know what you were talking about with that CD you'd listen to the whole thing, in order.

Not finishing a game is like listening to a few tracks on an album and thinking you know what you are talking about. You have to see the entire work to appreciate it.

To the original poster, out of 1,900 games I have beaten aruond 300 of them. It gets nebulous though, cause there are a great many "unbeatable" games for the early consoles (games like asteroids where you play indefinately).

I hear what you aall are saying but it's hard to finish new games when your old game has an amazing online multiplayer experience, (e.g. Call of Duty 4.)

Depends entirely on how good I thought the game was. There are some games I just couldn't bring myself to beat because they have become so so dull (Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto 4, etc.)

As a rule, I try to beat any games I own before I rush out and buy any new ones. In fact, I think the only game in my library that I have never beated is Neverwinter Nights 1. I just couldn't get past the last boss, but that was partly my fault for making some glaringly bad choices in character creation.

I have beaten every game I have ever played, with the exceptions of MMORPGs. I have played games since the early 80s all the way until now. I can't count how many I have beaten. I have even played games that no one have ever heard existed. So how many have I beaten? hundreds......thousands....who the heck knows.

I don't beat a lot of my games. I'm usually a generation behind in gaming, so the current games working on my system tend to be cheap. Because of that, I buy a lot, some to play in the future, some to play right away. I have over 30 games that I haven't beat for PC, 10 for XBOX and 5 for NDS. I haven't decided whether to beat any of them or not. Many of them I may never beat because they don't hold my interest.

As most said, fun is the key factor. Just have fun, and don't worry about beating them. If you do want to see the ending for the hell of it, you can always skip through cheat :P
