I usually spend lots of hours playing this game. Besides, some missions in this game require trial and error if you fail one of them. Anyway, I love this game since this game became part of my childhood and I'm currently playing this game again.
I don't know cause I never finish the damn game for one thing, Tony keeps drowning as soon as he steps into water, giving the fact that the game is 50% in Water throughout the game and for a game that features boats, you would have thought Rockstar at least make the main character able to swim but nooooope! I keep drowning during the boat missions and so with that, I never bother to finish the game during the PS2 era. Thank goodness San Andreas, CJ can swim and never drown.
@rockfield:
Roughly 40+ hours at least. I did the story like, 5 times and spend the rest of the time goofing around, looking for easter eggs.

Good for you.
And i have no clue how much time i spent,
Zero, because I've never played it.
Do I get a prize :D
Yup you get a Trevor toe.
But you should try it out, if you like GTA it´s a fun game even today.
@Jacanuk: I can't really get into Sandbox games 90% of the time. Have tried Grand Theft Auto III, and V. And while I accept them as great games for a certain (broad) audience, I'm not one who finds them all that fun to play. It goes the same for Racing games and most First Person Shooters.
However if you really enjoyed the games? that's awesome.
@RSM-HQ:
What are you into then? You do rpg's, fighting games and RTS and such?"
Most genres I really enjoy. In recent years I would say most of what I play are called Action-RPGs. Though I do have a soft spot for Fighting games, 3D slashers, Survival Horror and Metroidvania games as well.
I don't think my taste is catered to everyone however, it's just what I enjoy for whatever reason.
A rare exception to sandbox design is The Elder Scroll series. I've had a lot of fun playing Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. However that's more to do with the RPG side of things, than the open world structure.
I'm usually the one to state a games map should be made around the mechanics given to the player, and give as many options as possible to increase replay-ability. And for TES I let it slide (for whatever reason) because Bethesda Games have a unique dungeon crawler feel to them that I like.
I never stopped. 0_0.
I rented it from Blockbuster when it was new and I haven't left the room since. Typing this with one hand on my Compaq laptop whilst I hold the controller with the other. Smoke coming from PS2. Don't know how much longer it'll last. Send help.
Easily 100+ hours. I've spent an entire day in real life just looking for ramps and taking epic jumps off of buildings and shit lol
Ahhhhhhhh Vice City. Good times, good times.
I played that and Diablo 2, and that's about it, for probably two years. These were my "poor college student" years when I was a freshman and sophomore.
So I probably played it for 192384 dead hookers worth of time, or approximately 12938 police chases worth.
How ever long it takes to go through campaign without bothering with side missions and a few hours extra messing around going in rampages and flying.
The GTA I have played the most is GTA5, especially the online which I played to death when it was first released
Not nearly as many hours as San Andreas. Vice City I probably spent 100 hours on. San Andreas was probably more like 800. I take it back. I STILL play San Andreas on PC to this day.
