Honestly, I don't remember. Games have been a part of my life as long as I can remember. My dad was way into gaming before I was born. He had an Atari 2600 and some 50ish or so games for it. I remember spending lots of nights playing Donkey Kong, Outlaw, Space Invanders, and that God-awful Pacman port on it (I was too young to know the difference). Then he bought a NES, which was absolutely awesome. One of my fondest memories as a kid was actually playing Wolfenstein 3D on the PC with my him. He would control the movement, and I would be the spacebar for shooting (and I turned out just fine, thank you).
I can point to the moment when I knew I would be a "lifelong" gamer, so to speak. It was when I was around 6 or 7 years old. My mom had bought tickets to the circus like two weeks before and my little sister and I were so looking forward to it. Then, those damn chicken pox struck. My mom felt really bad, so she rented a Super Nintendo from Blockbuster with Super Mario World and some game about a blob that got sucked through pipes and stuff (yeah, that game was played for the whole of 15 min). I just remember thinking that the SNES and SMW were two of the most awesome things I'd ever seen. I got one for my birthday next year, and haven't looked back since.
Oh, and as a quick aside, my dad and I FINALLY beat Pitfall II for the first time last month. We decided to dust off the Atari 2600 after about 15 years of nonuse. Finally, at the age of 22, I can say I conquered the bane of my childhood.
I was somewhere around 3 or 4 [I think]. The earliest memory I have of videogames is one of the Castlevania's. Probably the first one. It was at the babysitter's [or daycare, if you prefer]. I remember whipping bats and thinking the game was awesome. That's about it.
*EDIT* According to Wikipedia the first Castlevania was released in the US in '87. So yeah, I was either 3 or 4.
My dad brought home an Intellivision system and a stack of games he bought at a garage sale when I was 7.
Frog Bog was the first game I ever played, if I remember correctly. It is certainly one the games I remember vividly.
I had to laugh when they played it in Grandma's Boy.
Damn, you guys started playing video games when you were 2 and 3? Crazy.
I started playing GB Color when I was around 6 or 7.
I was around 4 or 5 when we got our first home computer - an IBM 086 XT One of the first games I remember playing was a tank game where there was a tank at each side of the screen, and a randomly drawn hill between you. You had to control the power and elevation of the gun to shoot the other tank. The background was black, and the tank and scenery were green - those were the only colours used :)Avenger1324Battlezone
