8 simple steps on how to make a game look realistic:

1) Add brown

2) Add more brown

3) Make shadows so thick that everything is pitch black when underneath something

4) Add some more brown. Make the trees and grass brown too. Green is overrated and makes the game look crap. Green grass has no place in a violent game.

5) Add lots of shiny Bloom, because shiny lights go well with the brown textures

6) Make the sky brown

7) Make the entire screen look brown

8 ) Just keep adding brown like theres no tommorow. the brown you see, the more realitic it looks

And there you have it, a realistic-looking game!

Bah you're way off.

It seems to make games realistic these days you need to add an equal amount of brown and bloom. If the game isn't really brown and shinny it isn't realistic enough. If everything doesn't look like it has been polished from all the bloom the game fails. Trees, rocks, humans, monsters they all need a big dose of bloom added to look real.

I don't see excessive shades of brown when I look at trees and grass in real life. If you add extra brown, then it fails to be realistic (by definition) since the word "realistic" means "the way you see in it in real life". I don't see brown grass, brown trees, and brown skies in real life, so these are not realistic.

Nice try, but the best way to make a game look realistic is to make it have the same colors as what you see in real life. When I walk into my backyard, I see green grass (not brown or pink), and a blue sky (not brown or pink).

If you are a supporter of having games where everything looks brown, can you please explain why the sky outside my window is blue, no pink or brown? Because thats the same color I want to see when I play video games.

No, it was a joke. I'm not particularly pleased with the brown trend either: I like colors. For me those brown/grey games are nothing but a diversion between a Zelda game and the other.

I advise you check out this video, around minute 7:40, which fully supports your theory.

I am glad there are still developers out there who know that the world is full of colour and that "arte filme" filters don't make things more realistic. Like Capcom with Dead Rising. One of the most colourful games made and yet still extremely realistic (in the sense of mimicking reality in a fictional environment).

No brown here. Only awesome.

I know it was a joke, sorry if I sounded harsh. Just me waking up early in the morning and starting work real soon makes me feel grumpy. Sorry about that :P
