I have never played it before, or even seen one in shops or anything. I know nothing about the Turbografx-16.
So has anyone owned one or owns one.

It was a good system, overly popular in Japan where it had a very good lifespan. Though it wasn't quite in the line of a 16-bit system as it was marketed.
The system is overall most renown for it's SHMUP games.
The real potential of the system came with it's CD-ROM add-on, that it had more than 500 CD games released.
Unofortunately, the PC-Engine CD/Turbo Duo library is one of the most overall expensive ones, were even the bad games fetch high prices.
I had it back when it went on uber-clearence at Toys R Us. It was a decent system, especially with the "card" cartridges that didn't seem to have any problems with a glitching cartridge. The poster before me was right, there was a lot more in the japanese and CD-Rom world, but for the typical US gamer, there were some great games. Here's a quick rundown:
-Legendary Axe 1 & 2: Side scrolling game that almost seemed like a clone of the old arcade coin-op "Rastan".
-Splatterhouse: Side scrolling beat-em-up with lots of goo and gore. Also the lead looks like Jason from "Friday The 13th". Probably my favorite game on the system, but it was pretty easy.
-Alien Crush: Easily the BEST pinball video game ever.
-Bonk Series (bonk, bonk's revenge, bonk 3, air zonk): This was another interesting side scroller with a big pounding head and cartoony graphics. Great late 80s games with incredible graphics for the time.
-Bloody Wolf: Side scrolling shooter.
-Adventure Island: It was like an updated and alternative version of the NES.
That's what I really remember. The game that came with it (remember when pack-in games were REQUIRED) was "Keith Courage In Alpha Zones" and it was not so hot. It was a simple anime fan service side scroller.
Digital Pinball: Necronomicon for the Saturn is the best Pinball video game. Much better than Devil's and Alien's Crush.-Alien Crush: Easily the BEST pinball video game ever.

Great summary,
But consider for the time how cool Keith Courage looked and played compared to whatelse was out there.
Or perhaps I am Keiths only fan...

Nah, you're not. I will say that Keith was fun to play; just wouldn't classify it among any 'best games ever' lists.
It was a great system with many under rated games. But at the time of its peak, the price point was extremly high for that day in age.
Nintendo and Sega were just better alternatives at the time price wise.
FYI: TG-16 had a 8 bit processor and and a 16 bit GPU. Which, in my opinion, graphically speaking, it looked nicer than the NES, at that time.
I had the CD unit. It was great. Got Y's books 1&2 for it.
Bomberman was pretty on thatsystemtoo. Also had Military Madness, and Bonk of course
