So im not a huge fan of stealth games but i got Conviction on Friday and am really enjoying it, i rented Double Agent when it was first released but never bought it but from what i remember i didnt get very far into the game, i cant remember if this was due to the difficuly or because i didnt enjoy it. I was thinking about buying it now that you can virtually buy it for nothing nowadays and just wondered how it compares with Conviction.

I played like about 10 min of Double agent and finished conviction, and I'll tell you there is a difference between them so you might not like double agent.

I just finished Conviction over the weekend and liked it. I haven't played any Splinter Cell games since the second one I believe but I liked Conviction a ton. It was very easy to play and control right from the start. A little short, but I easily beat it in about 3 or 4 sittings.

both Double Agent and conviction are subpar compared to Chaos Theory (goes without saying). I liked parts of Double Agent way more than Conviction though.

Tbh they're incredibly different considering they're part of the same series. The main thing separating the two is pace, I personally preferred Double Agent but Conviction was surprisingly awesome too. Neither a patch on Chaos Theory.

Splinter Cell: Double Agent used the same formula as it's predecessors. It's much slower, linear and it involves more sneaking. Conviction is faster in just about every respect. The game is suited to allow you to play sneaky or guns-a-blazin. You also have a "Last Known Position" feature in the game, allowing you to sneak around enemies and take them out while they close in on where they think you are.

IMO, Double Agent was probably the worst game of the entire series. The only thing good about it was the graphics overhaul, which was our first time seeing Splinter Cell with next-gen graphics, and the many different environments you get to play in. I still prefer the classic formula for the game as opposed to the new, faster one; but Double Agent didn't do it for me like the previous games did.

If you prefer much faster gameplay and you enjoy gun fights, Conviction is your best bet. If you prefer the more traditional stealth/action games, then go with Double Agent. Although, I think Double Agent is cheap enough to the point that you should just buy both. :P

It's totally different. Conviction is action oriented, DA is pure stealth. Also: the 360/PS3/PC version of Double Agent is inferior to the old xbox version (they feature different missions, different gameplay and were made by different teams)

Conviction is definitely better than Double Agent. Not to say that DA was a bad game by any means, but the series really needed an overhaul and Conviction delivered that. People on the Gamespot forums keeps saying Conviction is a run 'n gun game. I really don't get it, try sticking it on the Realistic difficulty setting and see just how long you can "run 'n gun" without being mowed down in seconds.

Don't get Double-Agent. Conviction moved the series out of trial-and-error frustration and into enjoyment. It's not a bad game, but save your money.

True that it's super-cheap, but I was giving advice from a "Is this worth my time investment?" perspective. DA is a pretty good game, but there's much better games he could be spending his time on in the genre.

I've bought plenty of games because they were cheap (and got decent review scores) and they ended up as Coasters in my living room.

Conviction is so much better than Double Agent in my opinion. I thought that Double Agent was very poor and almost didn't buy Conviction. It seems like everyone just forgot that Conviction existed for the game of the year awards despite scoring very well. ( IGN - 9.2 Gamespot - 8.0) I'm not saying it should've won but I think it didn't get the credit it deserved and should have been nominated for something.

Conviction was truly a great game. The single-player was amazing, fun, and different. The co-op play was shockingly good, perhaps even one of the best co-op games in recent years.

I agree with both of these.

I've always enjoyed the Splinter Cell series. I did not enjoy Double Agent one bit, I did like the prison scene at the beginning but after that I just wasn't into it all, it took too much away from the stealth gameplay and what Splinter Cell is about.

Now Conviction I really enjoyed, it really brought back the stealth of Splinter Cell, there were certain things they didn't add in Conviction that I was a little disappointed about but overall it was a great game with a good story and great gameplay single and co-op. Plus Conviction had good replay value. Sam Fisher just really seemed back to his ways in Conviction.

Chaos Theory was my favorite and in my opinion the best in the series.

I loved Conviction and Double Agent. Splinter Cell is a great series. Conviction puts in a riveting latest chapter. I can't wait for the next one.

Double Agent I think would satisfy you more in the end, because it the single player is beefier. I loved Conviction, but it was over in a heartbeat. Double Agent also has better settings, and man oh man, you don't get to do anything nearly as cool in Conviction like doing stealth kills from underneath the ice! :o DA's worth it if you want more Splinter Cell, but the series' pinnacle is Chaos Theory.

Conviction is streamlined, but it packs a nice punch for people who want to jump in and out, and cause mayhem. Double Agent sticks to the same formula like its predecessors, although of lower quality. Chaos Theory remains the best of the entire Splinter Cell series, hands down.

Splinter Cell Conviction was soooo short. Over in a heartbeat is right. It makes me sad to think that Ubisoft was going to go all out with this game and make the SP last around 20 hours, with a very dark and gritty story - Shaggy-haired Sam Fisher and all. It's too bad they scrapped that, and streamlined it to hell to please the casual gamers, who probably don't even know the true heart and soul of the Splinter Cell series.

Thanks for the input guys, i'll pick up Double Agent next time i see it in the shops, Conviction was the first Splintercell that game that i'd completed, i remember playing the previous games on the PS1 or PS2 i cant remember but i never finished any of them until now, if Double Agent is even half as good as Conviction i'll no doubt enjoy it
