To the people that have played both:
Which did you find most entertaining?

I'm a huge fan of the series and personally really liked Homecoming, but Bioshock is the superior game in almost every way.

Neither. There are better games than Bioshock or Silent Hill coming out right now.

If you haven't played Bioshock, get it, it's a great atmospheric title. Though I gather Dead Space would be a great alternative to either of them.

I forgot Bioshock had dropped to $24.99 new (which means you could probably get it for $15 used). It's worth a play at that price (even in spite of the awesome new releases hitting), and it's definitely worth playing it before Silent Hill at that price.

Has any port a year or so later received the praise that BioShock on the PS3 has? I'm glad to hear so many games better than BioShock are coming out in the future. It's embarrassing to have to point this out: you don't know in advance.

The editor of this website, Ricardo Torres, calls BioShock a "must-play." Has he said that about any other game this generation?

That is the common denominator in the BioShock PS3 reviews one year after the original BioShock: "must-play." The PS3 reviews are embarrassing they're so good. I can't believe it - but it's true. Don't listen to people who live on forums. BioShock is tied for the second -highest game of all-time on the PS3 at Metacritic - a port a year later. Unprecedented, I believe.

I don't think there will ever be a better plot in a video game. There could be, of course. Ayn Rand is worth getting to know.

Brendan Sinclair is the best writer at GameSpot. His interviews with Ken Levine are c l a s s i c. They're worth reading.

I can't convince what Ken Levine calls two certain elements of gaming. 99% of this forum originally supported Jack Thompson.

They'll vote for McCain and Palin:

Adapted from John McCain's autobiography:

John McCain: "I played it. My plane was taken down over Rapture, and I was captured and interrogated:

Andrew Ryan: "Why won't you talk? Why, Johnny Mac, can't I break you?"

McCain:...

Ryan (snapping pen and sending ink flying): "They've taught you all too well, Johnny Mac! All too well!"

Sarah Palin (when asked if she played BioShock):

"I chose life! I chose life!"

Its well known by now that Silent Hill Homecoming does not feel like a Silent Hill game, so if you are after that experience you will be dissapointed. I still found it to be a fun game though.

Bioshock is a mandatory play as well.

Get Bioshock first (its cheaper) I guess and then Silent Hill Homecoming, it might have dropped in price a bit by then.

At least... I am assuming you meant Silent Hill Homecoming when you said Silent Hill 5...

Shully bits? You might want to reconsider saying "shully bits."

I didn't ramble. It's an outline format.

Silent Hill: Homecoming has a lot going for it, but a lot of odd or outright dumb design decisions as well. While the combat is better, it's not good enough to be the focus of the game, which it more or less is anyway. The difficulty is tremendously imbalanced, and in most cases past the initial "Nightmare" intro stage, outright cheap as all hell. Despite that, I find the environs to be acceptably creepy and in line with the series, and the monster designs and implementation are pretty brilliant, especially the nurses. I was in a situation where I was in a small house, suddenly found it invaded by five of them, and quickly cut my flashlight, like in the movie, they fell still and silent, and I had to navigate in the darkness between them, avoiding making any noise or touching them, to get to a new room. Got a key... that goes to something in the previous room.... and had to go back through the dark between them again. Good atmosphere.

Not quite up to Team Silent's standard though. Though the bosses are absolutely tremendous, and actually top some of Team Silent's best. Get Silent Hill next year at a budget price. It's good on the whole, but not holiday season good.

arg, get bioshock, No I have not played silent hill 5, but if you played every silent hill game more then likely you will not like this game even though there are some exceptions that do *rare*. Silent hill has a feature that has a forced to dodge feature you have't to use it or you will die, just like residen't evil 3. Me personally I never did like those kind of games a major plus since it wasn't in the previous games.. and the fact that silent hill 5 is amercian produced game only the original team really didn't have anything to do with this one will turn even more fans off.. But of course this is just my opioion, but I say bioshock.

Thanks for the replies. I bought Bioshock. I don't really like the sound of the changes done to the combat in Silent Hill Homecoming, and many have said it doesn't feel like a Silent Hill game. Regardless, I will still buy it.

All accounts say they buggered up Silent Hill really bad and changed a lot of the formula and such. You'll enjoy Bioshock though, its a fantastic game.

Sounds like you have your answer, but in future please ask for game purchase recommendations in the Game Recommendations thread we have stickied at the top of this forum.
