I really wouldn't worry about Day 1 user reviews on Metacritic. They tend to either be trolls or people that nitpick to the extreme. A game could have amazing graphics, an incredible story, great controls, but there are some people that will give it a 1 just because the music skipped in chapter 2 :P
If reviews determine you're opinion on purchasing a game, I'd wait past the Day 1ers.

I have played it maybe 3-4 hours straight. It's really good. I think people are raging because you can "customize" your bots like in TF2. For real money.

It's probably a protest against the in-game micro-transaction store for the Co-Op characters. Pretty silly since it's optional and has no bearing on the content - much like TF2 (now that game has ads)

You have to find out yourself if you like it or not (as funny as this sounds :P ).
Pretty much all of the user reviews are trolls from /v/ complaining about the length (which they claim is half the length it actually is) and some completely optional in-game DLC co-op bot outfits that have no effect on the game whatsoever. Really, really pointless.
Yeah I know guys, I was just being sarcastic. I already own the game, but I just find it funny how easy people can vote down a game in metacritic. This is why I have a hard time trusting user reviews in any site. Sure some are good, but most are just plain bad.
