Okay I give up. I got this traded in today and I have no clue when this was made, what it would be called, or what it would be worth. I offered the guy $15 trade but he wanted cash so he got $8 for it. He said it is not modded he bought it new like this. It's obviously a Saturn controller made for the PS1 or PS2. There were none on Ebay except for one that was modded and it looks nothing like this. It's very official looking. Thanks.

this is an official product, basically Sega licensed the pad design to Capcom , and they made it for the PS2, so its actually Capcom that made this.

it was packaged with a darkstalkers compilation on the PS2

the one you saw on Ebay was most likely one of those clones where they basically took a real Saturn pad and just modified it with a USB cable so it can run on a PC or PS3.

what youve got there though is an official product, not sure how much its worth, but Id imagine its not the most common thing ever.

I don't claim to know everything, but I have never even heard of these so I would say it is somewhat rare. I really don't know what to price it at... I'm thinking $30-$40 range but I don't want to rip anyone off, but then again I don't want it to be worth like a hundred bucks or anything either... Tough one.

obviously it is a speciality controller, and quite limited too . I could be wrong, but these may have actually been Japan only, but don't quote me on that one as Im not 100% sure. at least now you know its not some pirated or modified product, its official, which no doubt raises the price a little :P

My understanding is that it's one of the most coveted controllers for pad fighting game players, period. I don't know if it's rare, but the fact that it's the Saturn controller makes it the de facto best option on PS2 if you don't use a stick.

Awesome info everyone! Thanks a lot. I can know a little bit about it now. If nothing else it's completely awesome just because of what it is and the logos on it.

It looks cool, that's all I know. I wish I had a Saturn pad for my PS2.

I definitely seem to think this looked like a Sega Saturn Model 2 Controller plastered with Sega and Playstation on it. Turns out, this is a PS2 controller made by Sega for PS2. How ironic that Sega would be making a controller for a rival platform that shut them out of the console making biz? Cool find!

A local game store has one in their glass case for I believe $38. It caught my curiosity as well... it is a cool collectors item for sure. I would have bought it, only problem is, I actually prefer the PS2 controller.... so, I thought I would wait out. Good thing there are a ton of other people out there that would prefer just the opposite though :). Personally I would hold onto it as a collectors item in my own personal collection if I were you. Sure, you have a store to make money, but $8 or it and whatever else was traded in isn't going to hurt you any especially if there was anything else. If that was the one and only item... its just a matter of how much you want it adversed to how much you can get for it. Either way items like that are a great center piece, and will attract a TON of attention. I might even consider putting a VERY HIGH price tag on it, with the intention of catching peoples eye. If it sells at that price GREAT if it doesn't well, guaranteed it will stir up some conversations and bring you more business one way or the other... so it is a win win situation. I love those "it" items at retro game stores.By the way I have bought several "it"items from game stores in the past! Even if I could have gotten them cheaper online, there is nothing like actually being up close and personal and seeing the item first hand.

^ Actually someone else suggested the same thing today. To put a somewhat high price tag (probably $40) on it just for people to look at and like you said catch their eye. I am going to do that, but sometimes it does work against you like for example... I have a copies of Skies of Arcadia and Power Stone 2 for DC sealed in my class case. I think skies is $120, and Power Stone 2 is $180. For a collector those are good ballpark prices, but for some people they think "are these guys nuts with the prices?". Either because they don't understand that old sealed games are rare and bring value, or because they can't see that they are sealed, just like someone might look at that and say "$40 for a Saturn controller???". I am going to put it out though. It's tough being a collector myself and just plain loving video games and memorabilia because I want everything I see that I don't have lol. I draw the line on a lot of things. Recently the only things I have taken home were Super Metroid complete, X-Comm UFO Defense on PS1, and Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii, because those are some things that I could very well never see again for a good price.

frankly the shops that deal with 2nd hand good and such (not your field but still) have no clue about value

it can work well though , as I found Conker's Bad Fur Day N64 for £2 here, when it can easily go for £40 , even unboxed.

on the other hand, they will only give you 50p for most PS1/N64/SAT games, no matter which one.

heck I could try and trade in Panzer Dragoon Saga (PAL) and I would only get 50p, which is about the price of a bar of chocolate.

of course I would not trade Panzer Saga as its awesome but still...... 50p
