** Note: I'm am by no means a serious game player, I'm absolutely 100% casual, and the fact that Xbox has almost no games coming out this year had 0 effect on my purchase. I don't have a 360 nor do I plan on dropping that much cash.

Yeah I wasn't planning on spending any money on game systems cuz I'm buying a new bike next week but my friend offered me his xbox with 2 controllers and 9 games for $30.

I wanted to know a few things:

Is Xbox live still worth buying? Maybe a 1 month to see if i'm interested?

Can someone reccomend a first RPG? I've never played one.

Anyway I've played some of the games and they're pretty cool, namely forza motorsport.

Here are some of the titles I have:

Forza, Doom 3, freedom fighters, san andreas, Splinter cell chaos theory, ghost recon 2 summit strike, half life 2, tomb raider legend, black. I think that's all of 'em. Thanks for any and all input.

Also, if anyone could suggest an awesome shooter/action game for less than $10, that would be cool. First game to buy is MX unleashed

Now that's an absolute steal, and those are very fun games too!

but actually, after your bike purchase, I suggest savin up for a pretty good PC, theres always more variety with a pc, as long as you get a decent one, you won't have to worry about having to keep up with the times, such as when the "PS4 comes out" (assuming it will, and it most likely will)

as long as your PC is high end, but not necessarily "top of the line" you'll be good to go without having to worry about when a new console comes out, and, if you already have an internet connection, and you just created a topic so I assume you do, online play is free, there will be few games you won't be able to get your hands on, such as MGS4 for PS3, and of course, if you prefer gaming with a controller, you can always get one and just plug it in.

I don't know about Forza and black, but I'm pretty sure every one of the games you just named, are also on PC.

oh yeah, and now that there are these high end consoles computer hardware is cheaper, since a console can actually compete with a PC in performance now.

you gotta be sh-tting me! How can you compare spending 500 bucks for the most advanced gaming console and spending at least $1000 on a PC ?(and thats if you build it yourself).

the fact is you need to upgrade your PC more oftenthan you would your console (well, XBOX consoles dont count) . PS1 and PS2 both had 6 year life cycles, the high end PC that you will build right now will get outdated in the next six months. the top of the line one will last you the next year.

as for the XBOX and the 9 games for $30 is a great deal.

you ripped him off. :)

Congrats on the purchase! I bought a Xbox for $10 at a garage sale but it was broke, I knew ahead of time. For another cheap FPS you could try Timesplitters 2 or Timesplitters: Future Perfect which are both under $10. Future Perfect even has online play.

As far as RPG's go, stay away from Elder Scrolls, it's really not a good choice for a casual gamer. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best rpg's ever made, so that's the one I'd most strongly reccomend.

Listen to this man, he is right. Elder Scrolls is HORRIBLE for a casual gamer, I'm pretty hardcore and I hate it. KOTOR is GREAT

Yeah. Get both KOTOR games (the first is better though) and Deus Ex: Invisible War.

That´s one heck of a deal, congrats. It´s not gonna take you a lot of effort to find used Xbox games for less than 10$, but you better hurry cause it´ll be harder to get a hold of them as time goes by. Anyways; check GameSpot XBOX review charts to make sure you buy the right stuff for your machine.

lol you just took what console people say thats bad about pc gaming and switched it around. PCs have to be updated every couple of years, end of, consoles last at least 5 years and you're guaranteed to play games at highest settings. PCs you'll gradually be playing on lesser and lesser settings as time goes by.

I wouldn't start with Morrowind as your first RPG. It's pretty intimidating. My favorite RPG on the Xbox is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and I highly suggest it. You shouldn't have much trouble finding it for cheap :).

KOTOR, jade empire or Fable should be your choices. I love Morrowind, but as one of the above posters said, it's intimidating.

That is the biggest flaw in logic that most non-PC gamers use in an attempt to degrade PC gaming. Of course, in order to always play PC games at the highest settings, you do have to upgrade every year. However, you fail to mention that the "highest setting" standard goes up every 6 months. This doesn't mean that your PC will now be producing worse graphics, no, on the contrary it will be producing the same graphics across the field.

High settings 5 years ago, are now low settings -- however the graphical output hasn't changed and you have not lost anything. In fact, over those 5 years, drivers will be vastly improved allowing you to play older games at even higher graphical settings, while at the same time allowing you to play newer games with more graphical features then before. The truth of the matter is, PC gaming is just like a console, where you choose your components, and actually have the ability to improve you console if you wish. Rather then having to wait 5 years for a new model to come out.

This argument is the equivalent to saying, "oh, I have to upgrade my car every year because they always come out with new models".

P.S. To the OT, sorry about derailing the thread there. I would check out Fable, which was a great game. In all honestly, that is probably the only rpg-ish game I played for the xbox. I usually used mine to play action games and such. On the non-rpg side, definitly check out all the Tom Clancy games, they are amazing!

I heartily recommend The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, despite what some here have said. It is a great RPG and is a great experience for many who play it. It actually turned from a casual gamer into a hardcore gamer... Anyway, before you pass a great game such as this one, check around some different reviews, some good and bad, to try to get a good feeling for what it's really like.

you got a great deal, and a great beginning collection.. XBL is definitely worth it, if you have a good internet connection...I suggesta 3 month subscription if you wanna try it out

Fable is probably your best bet for an RPG on the xbox for a casual gamer... though some will argue its not really an RPG, its an "action" RPG, to a casual gamer the difference is moot and frankly the "action" RPG category is overall more fun than a strict RPG, especially for a casual gamer... I think you'll find it more fun than KOTOR, but thats a great game too... but having said that, you deserve to treat yourself to elder scrolls 3: Morrowind... its probably hte best overall strict RPG on the xbox... be sure to get the Game of the Year (GOTY) edition...

and I can't possibly leave a "just got an xbox, what games should i get"thread without adding Ninja Gaiden Black... arguably the best game on the xbox, but very hard... the Black version adds content and the ability to play on the NinjaDog (easy) level... get it...
