The PSP costs a lot, and if I wanted one, it'd be better to get thte 3000 right? I just want something that can play good gameboy games that I buy from stores used like Gamestop.yes you should, but forget the gameboy, get a psp, cause with that u can play psp games, and somehow also, through various ""means", you cna play gba games if u catch my drift

lol your nuts dude. Should you wear your underwear on your head because its thursday and you dont like wearing underwear on thursdays?? Your going to buy a GBA SP just because it "feels wierd" playing gba games on a DS??? Uhhh me personally I would rather buy some freaking games instead of redudant crap I dont need but uhhh thats your call._AbBaNdOnNo, it's just that I was wondering if it was really uncomfortable playing them, like in my hands. You're saying you don't care if it is very uncomfortable?
OK, one more question. Do you play your gba games in a phat, or a lite?i don't find it uncomfortable or weird at all.
being forced to carry around two handhelds depending on what game i want to play... THAT would feel weird and uncomfortable.
or at least cumbersome.

i'm pretty sure it's a lite. it's the one that came out just a couple of years ago, that came in Coral, Pink or Black.
i found the GBA to be heavier... and it didn't have a rechargable battery (boo @ AA's)
Finally someone else agrees,it really doesn't feel right playing GBA games on a DS.
Yes you should, the GB:SP feels much more convert, not to mention it has B.C. that lets you play GB games.
So yes.

You have one, dont you know!!!!!???? Have you never played a GBA game before??? Its going to feel EXACTLY like freaking playing a DS game!!! Do you have a problem playing those??
I never had a gameboy advance sp. That was why before I was thinking about buying one.sp has rechargable battery So does the DS
can play over 2000 games I guesse cut out GB library and you get game the DS can play, I wonder why GB games don't work
can fit in your pocket The DS fits in your pocket to
great deal
who cares about graphic just as long as you have fun playing it

I think it's wierd to buy a system if you have one that is backwards compatible with the games you want. Although sometimes this is warented like I didn't buy an atari 7800 instead of a atari 2600 because the 7800 isn't compatible with all the 2600 games.
I might be a little late for the thread but here goes:
You'd be crazy to try and buy a gbasp just to play gba games. Never mind the fact that you're pointlessly wasting money. The fact that the DS can play the same games, and has more playing time via stronger battery, is a much better deal.
Also, I find you're reason for wanting an sp ironic. Don't you know that it's even more uncomfortable playing a gbasp then it is a DS? The sp can make your hand feel cramped, and the screen will certainly take a bit of getting used to after playing on the DS so much (I'm assuming of course that you have been playing your DS as of late)
And more importantly, gba games look much better on a DS. Try playing FF 4, 5, and 6 advance on the gba. Then play them on the DS. Look at how much better the lighting is, with the DS's better screen (play the top screen preferably). Also the fact that the DS is more widely spaced for better comfort (unless you have like minuscule hands).
And more importantly... The DS has tons more rpg's than the gba can ever dream of having, and more are yet to come. But I guess they just might not be your cup of tea.
If I'm missing anything please be sure to tell me, I don't think I've covered all the points on why the DS is ten times better than the gba. Nintendo at least did something right (though it's really more like they got lucky. This coming from one of the biggest game boy color/advance aficionados of last gen)
I see. But the 2nd gameboy advance sp has better lighting. Also, if the is that bad, how bad is the gameboy micro?I might be a little late for the thread but here goes:

for the psp, im not sure which i sthe best,, i have the first one, fat one, but i heard that the 2000 is the best for some reason, even better than the 3000 (not sure on why exactly)
but since ur not considering that, id say get the SP. i personally think the DS lite that i bought was the biggest waste of money. the only game i enjoyed for it was pokemon lol. and i agree with you about it being uncomfortable, i cant tell you how many times my hands started hurting. i do not recall having this problem with my gameboys back in the day. also, SP is good because it can play all the game boy color games/game boy games, which beat the crap outta any garbage, waste of time DS game out there. good luck in your decision and sorry for the late response
Lots of opinions.. the GBA SP should be more affordable than it was previously. and there are some really great games for both GB and GBC that you cannot play on the DS.. if you're only looking for GBA games.. then use the DS.. here are some great RPG's for the GBA
Golden Sun
Golden Sun 2
Zelda: Minish Gap,
Breath of Fire
Breath of Fire II
DemiKids: Light Version
DemiKids: Dark Version (these are Shin Megami Tensei series)
Tales of Phantasia
Over the years I've experienced and accumulated all the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance variations, as well as both Nintendo DS models.
I don't mind playing GBA games on my Lite. For me, it feels great. My first generation GBASP doesn't have a bright enough screen for me, and after experiencing GBA on my DS lite and GB Micro, I will probably never use it again (except on rare occasions while playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles). The button layout isn't bad but it's the screen brightness that gets to me. Same with the 2nd generation GBASP. The DS Lite and the Micro have much brighter screens; they're beautiful. I actually keep my Micro in my car just in case I'm waiting around for someone and need to kill time (or if I get bored of playing NES on my cell phone). The Micro is hands-down my favorite method of playing GBA games; the bright screen, portability, and faceplate options are what grab my attention. The screen is noticeably brighter than any other GBA model, it feels better in my pocket (much better than an SP which is huge compared to it), and I don't even use the faceplates it came with but I love the option. Although the Micro is not backwards compatible (cannot play GB, or GBColor games on it), I still definitely prefer it over any other Gameboy model (if I need to play Tetris or MarioLand, I'll bust out my transparent Gameboy Pocket, but that is a rare occasion because I don't really like any older Gameboy games [not enough action for me])
I'd say stick with your DS Lite and get used to using that (use the top screen), but if you're still stubborn, try finding a Micro, but I don't see them around very often anymore.
Hope I've had inputted opinion here to sway yours :)
OK, thanks for your input. However, I am looking for a gameboy micro at my gamestop. The person behind the counter said they sell them for $30, which is a steal, but they don't have them as of 2 days ago. I have to wait and hope that someone will sell theirs to that gamestop, so I can buy it.O

Are you looking to play older games like original Gameboy or Gameboy Color games(there aren't too many GB/GBC rpg's that I'm aware of though)? If you do, then get the SP for that. DS Lite doesn't play anything pre-GBA(which I'm sure, you're aware of; but for a long time, I wasn't aware of it).
I'd just say stick to the DS Lite and play your GBA games on it. It's a waste of money, unless you're wanting to play older games on an SP. But then again, it's your money so do what you want.
I was thinking about buying one for playing games like Golden Sun, Tales of Phantasia, and other games. My ds can play gba games, but the problem is that it might feel awkward to play them on it, since the controls feel different. Is this a good idea?hydralisk86
If you want to play Tales of Phantasia you shouldn't play the GBA version. It is horrible. They completely ruined it.
I cant recall having any problems playing GBA games on a DS phat or lite. the button placement is the same overall (the DS just has 2 extra buttons) and u can play the game on the bottom or top screen, whatever suits. the only difference is the DS is a little wider and is a bigger handheld. but if u have no problems playing DS games or carrying around ure DS then playing GBA games will feel pretty much the same. the screens on the DS are also better than on the GBA SP (even more so on the lite...much better colour).
the only advantage the GBA has over the DS is its size, the SP is smaller.
