I have a question about Golden Sun

How do you know where to go to progress in the game?? For example, you do one quest, but will there always be a hint saying where to go next?

Often there is just 1 new town to go to, so you walk around on the map untill you find it, then inspect everything there, and then you will get hints where to go next etc.
