Yea, they were one series I missed out on as I didn't have a good enough PC at the time to play them. So do you guys think they hold up pretty well today? I don't care about graphics, as long as they get the job done. How's the story? It's an RPG right? So which is the best one?

If you want to experience a couple of the best RPG's ever made then yes, you definitely should.

They more than hold up to today's games. In hindsight, they are better than most RPG's coming out these days.

Yes and they're cheap enough (Iassume i don't actually have any idea) that you shouldn't need any reason to take the very minimal risk.

Go for it. Like said above, other than the graphics (which are horrible) the games actually hold up really well today.

They really aren't when considering the fact they are 2D.

Oh c'mon, you gotta admit the game is hard on the eyes! Even when the game was first released it was considered pretty ugly, with a colorful range of colors ranging from vaguely redish brown to blackish brown and various other brownish colors thrown in for good measure. The characters pretty much all look the same and the max resolution for the game is a teeny tiny 640 by 480! Art consists of ruined houses, ruined cars and ruin infested desert, all in stunnining low resolution and all very, very brown.

But that's FINE, who cares if the game is ugly as hell when you can essentially do anything you want in a massive well designed post-apocalyptic world full of every conceivable vice and sin out there! Fallout is AMAZING, terribly ugly and harsh on yer eyes, but AMAZING nonetheless and anyone who cares so much about graphics that they wont play Fallout because of it's uglyness doesn't deserve to play it anyway. Shallow graphics wh***! Bah!

Hehe. I just love the game for the gameplay and humour. I could care less about the graphics. :P

Fallout 2 was too outdated for me. I couldn't get into it after Baldurs Gate 2.

Cool thanks, I'll have to check it out. Maybe they have a bundle at Frys or something.....thanks for the input. I wonder if it'll run at all on newer OS though.

well they are very good games, but if your question pertains to...do i need to play the first 2 fallouts to understand fallout 3...then no. You can play fallout 3 and had never heard of fallout before and still be able to play the game and understand everything.

There's a cheap UK compilation floating around on various online retailers if you can find it - it's got the first two Fallout games (the real Fallout games) and Fallout Tactics. Fallout Tactics is pretty fun, but it's all combat and next to no role-playing, so it's quite a bit different than the other two. Unfortunately, the deathclaws in Tactics look like muppets.

All well worth playing now, though. The first game is probably the easiest to get into, since it offers the most freedom to avoid combat from the start and is quite a bit shorter and more compact than the second. I still prefer the second, but the beginning can be frustrating if you have a charisma/speech based character and there's a lot more empty space on the world map.

I love Fallout's graphics. Yes they're ugly but I wouldn't have them any other way.

And the cutscenes in Tactics are just... bad. Great game if you like turn based combat nevertheless.
