Does anyone know if the DualShock 2 works on all PSX models and do they work for all PSX games?

Awesome, so there's no need to track down the original DualShock grey PSX controllers? They're kind of hard to find in good condition, and I've been trying to round out my controller stock for my systems.

yes they will work , though obviously alot of games will only work with the analog turned off.

I actually have a PS1 dualshock, PS2 dualshock and PS3 dualshock , and while at first they look the same ,there are differences, most notably the analog sticks on the PS3 are not quite as good as the ones on the PS2, or PS1 for that matter.

also the PS1 dualshock seems to be a tiny bit bigger .

Didn't the PS1 controllers also work for the PS2? If I remember correctly they did, and made an acceptable substitute for games where the analog buttons didn't matter.

that is correct. I got a PS2 back in Aug 2001 but I finally got a additional DS2 2003 because MVP Baseball 2003 used only the DS2 controler. So before I got MVP, i was using my PS1 controllers. @ohthemantee yes I hate those bogus triggers on DS3. Sony should put it back to its orginal DS1/DS2 form. @Darkman, DS1 was bigger?

dualshock 1 controllers work for ps2 games most of the time but not always. It's depends on whether each game allows it to work. A list of which ps2 games work with dualshock controllers can be found here:

Huh, I didn't know that. Now I wonder: Does a PS3 controler work with the PS2?

yeah I tried using my ps2 controller on my ps1 a few months back actually. I was expecting it to work, so it was no shock, but I was happy to know I was correct in my assumption.

I'd say they are compatible DS1 on the PS2 with 95% of the Library and PS2 DS on the PSX 95% functional.

Just remember when making the switch you don't get the analog buttons. Like say you are playing gran turismo 3. You could somewhat feather the throttle with the DS2 but with a DS1 it is either ON or OFF.

And vise versa if you use a DS2 on a PSX game then the programming didn't exist yet for the analog buttons to have any use.

You really only notice this though when playing a lot of racing games.
