I wasn't really anticipating this game whatsoever and I downloaded the demo on a whim just now and all I can truly say is that I'm speechless. You guys know I barely create threads in the GGD, so if I'm making one right now this early in the morning, you know I'm loving this game.

Wet pretty much had me blown away with its insane, high octane, stylish action that I had no idea even existed until a few minutes ago. It has a Devil May Cry feel, mixed with Max Payne, and a dash of God of War. The presentation and the art direction of the game really captures that Western/B-Movie/Quentin Tarantino feel that I'm getting from the game. I love how the whole thing seems likes its right off a movie reel. I usually hate games that try to incorporate way too many things just for the hell of it but Wet is a different story. I can't see this game being they way it is without having all of these elements in it. My only gripe is that the platforming elements to the game feel very clunky and I hope the final product has very few moments of these or the platforming mechanic gets tweaked before launch.

Guys, I urge you to buy this game. Reserve your copy at GameStop. If you do so before 9/14/09, the game will be sold at $49.99 instead of the usual $59.99. I know I'm going to put my $5 down when I have free time today. Is it just me or did this game come out of left field? I was not expecting this type of reaction from me from this game. I love this feeling!

Nice impressions. Assuming SCEA ever gets around to its Thursday update, I'll give WET a shot.

Sounds awesome -- I still hate pre-ordering unknown properties, though, b/c you never know if the game as a whole gets too repetitive or some flaw like that. Good to know that the core gameplay is fun, though.

So which is it?

Theoretically, the game has a lot of potential to be great. From videos, the gameplay looks really slick. I hope that the overall product holds up, though.

Yeah I really wasn't sure what to expect from this game either but I really enjoyed the demo. I have way too many other games I want to buy right now but I certainly want to at least rent it or perhaps buy it a little later on down the road.

I went in with exceptionally low expectations and walked away impressed, if not in the "sold" category. I was expecting a cheesy, innuendo-filled boob-fest with guns and a big-ass sword (a self-sustaining, although far too common combination) and while it definitely falls into that category, it also handles the action and gore stylishly and with panache. There's also quite a bit of Kill Bill in there for us Tarantino fans.

I don't see myself not picking this up when it comes out, and it might be my first pleasant surprise in what has otherwise been a pretty predictable year.

Thumbs up (so far).

I feel you on that Shame-us. I knew about the game for a long time now and I honestly wasn't expecting much. After playing the demo, I left with a smile on my face and an urge to play more. Very few games leave me with that impression from a simple demo. Also, the music is great and it works well with the pace and action of the game. I personally don't like that type of music but for some reason in Wet, I'm all on it.

i played the demo and came away with a casual thumbs up. its really going to come down to 2 things: 1) level design: the mechanics for a good game are there. its just a matter of how well they are implemented. if the levels are set up sort with lines you can take going from obstacle to obstacle and stylishly killing goons (sort of like lines in the better levels of the tony hawk series), then its really going to magnify those mechanics. if quality level design isnt there, i can see this game getting old fast. 2) i dont know if its been announced yet or not, but there needs to be encouragement for the player to use the environment well and get those high combos. online leaderboards are a good start.

The demo was pretty fun and i plan on picking the game up but really it wasn't that amazing...It just felt like Stranglehold really, decent mindless combat with ok graphics.

It feels like Tarantino and John Woo got together and made a video game. Lots of gory, over the top action that can get repetitive but is still plenty of fun.

I thought the demo was underwhelming. It didn't wow me the way I thought I would. I call this game a definite rent, but a dubious buy. The character seems completely underpowered when she's not in Slow Motion. In other games that include slow motion, you can hold you're own in real time, and absolutely decimate in slow motion. In Wet, however, you NEED slow motion to even stand a chance, so you end up sliding, jumping, and wall running just to slow down time when you really shouldn't have to.

This seems like the type of game that I will love watching on Youtube, but wouldn't enjoy playing myself. I may rent it out of boredom someday in the distant future, but I can't see myself paying money to own it.

It was ok, but Rubi is useless outside of slo mo mode, which means you pretty much run the whole game that way. Rubi is also very slow, animates very stiffly, and just feels "heavy". I don't like that, she doesn't look or handle very fluid or gracefully, as I hoped she would. I'll get it, but not until it hits $20 or $30.

I always enjoy games like this but I finish them too quick and easy, and i'm not someone who plays games again on higher difficulty. Once i've finished it that's it for me, I move on.

I do like third person action adventures, especially ones that are not Tomb Raider.

I wasn't real impressed by it. Its so easy to go into slow mow it feels like one spends the entire demo there. I prefer the way FEAR handled slow mo (limited by a meter IIRC, and thus something one tended to save for really nasty fights).

I tend to agree. If I can go into slow mo at anytime, why wouldn't I be in slow mo at any given time? Max Payne, Fear, and Stranglehold are all games that pop to mind that handled "bullettime" exceedingly well.

The demo, to me, felt uninspired, sloppy, and lazy in many regards. Animations seemed stiff, without any sense of weight to them, the presentation style is stylish but jarring at times, and for me, the sound design is frustrating, especially since you have inconsistent/illogical elements like how your guns sound exactly the same, all the time (from what I could get to), even when you slowdown gameplay, which creates a disconnect in what you are seeing, and what you are hearing. It was fun to play for a few minutes, but that's all I really needed from it. This is an easy pass for me by a long shot.

I have to play the demo again to see if I get the same reaction you guys are getting. I'm usually a sucker for cheap thrills and cool scenes but I'm not totally sure if this is what I was experiencing. You guys are making feel like I need to reevaluate my original claims. I should be playing it later tonight or tomorrow.

I watched GameSpot's preview video for the game, and I remember thinking Wet looked like a mindless mash-fest. Watching it sort of reminded me of that John Woo game... what was it again? Bullet Proof or something? I'm seriously not even going to bother to look, I thought that game was so awful.

Just the title alone, "Wet," is enough to annoy me. I can just imagine the yuppie marketeers looking in on the demographics like we're hamsters in a cage. "Ya know, guyth, I think the title needth to be thumthing provocotive... nevermind if it actually maketh thenth, it juth needth to be thekthy!" Sorta like the game Pure, which is about four-wheeling and gives almost no sensation of purity whatsoever. Bah. /rant

How-ev-er, I love being wrong about stuff like this, so if you say it's cool, or at least not horribly patronizing/borderline insulting, I'll give it a go.

Probably one of the most derivative games i've played all year. It's basically a carbon copy of Max Payne / Stranglehold / Chili Con Carnage / whatever else is in the slow-mo-while-diving-through-air ilk. Bad rock music, cliches ahoy and C-grade television stars do not make a good game. And it didn't help when they started doing that thing where they pause for a brief second to flash a new character's name on the screen. I hate that. In light of all the other fresh, polished experiences coming this year, I see zero reason to spend time on this.

Well here's the way I see it when it comes to Wet.

Pros: You get to play as a hot badass femme fatale, the game seemlesly combines sword attacks with shooting and acrobatics, the game has a nice presentation to it with grain filter effects as well as the swig and rage moments and the music fitted that hummours/violent atmosphere.

on the flip side

Cons: Gameplay was little repetitive mainly because you only kill enemies with your revolvers and your sword, I would have liked it if you could jump offa wall and do a downward slash or use human shields or pick up your enemies gun temporaily and use it against them and the enemy spawn point thing was really, really archaic the levels were a little too linear and the game was not challenging at all.

Those were my impressions but the game is worth a rental and if it can deliver more badass moments like the car scene or the rage segment then I may buy as well as provide harder levels and enemies I may buy it when it drops down to 30.00 $ maybe a little higher.

I thought it was just a cheap Stranglehold and my time with the demo did nothing to change that opinion, the graphics are worse, the controls aare worse, the physics are worse, the destruction is worse.Only good thing is the bit at the end of demo were you jumping from 1 car to another on the motorway

I'm not quite decided on this one. I'm sure it'll be fun once I get the hang of things, but at the moment it seems like a jazzed-up version of Stranglehold, and the thing about Stranglehold is that it wasn't very good.:(

I think you're missing the point of the title "Pure". I'm pretty sure that they weren't looking for purity in the sense of cleanliness. It was supposed to be indicative of the completely immersion in the activity, the purity of adrenaline and controlof the vehicle.

"Wet" is probably trying to emulate the fluid dynamic and power of water, and the force it commands to move around and through obstacles.

Given that a main feature of the original trailer was the main protagonist taking a bath/relaxing about in the nude, I'm pretty sure there might be some level of a double entendre at play with the title. In either case, I think that the analysis you give is a bit too deep for a game that feels as shallow as this (double water pun - intentional).

I think the term "Wet" is just short for wet-work which is what the main character's jobs are described as. Or so I've read.

With a sexy female character, there is definitely some double entendre at work. However, the way the game plays might not be completely relevant with the original conceptualization. Also, I'm just working with theory having no way to try the game. Also, the abbreviation for wet-work makes sense as well.

Yep that is correct. They said the title Wet was short for Wet-works.
