I'm on a quest to make a dictionary of videogame terms. Things like RPG, MMO, Pixel, DirectX ... I need your help coming up with terms and diefinitions.

Here's a few : RPG= Role-Playing Game. FPS= First-Person Shooter, TPS= Third-Person Shooter, RTS= Real-Time Stratagy, TBS= Turn-Based Stratagy, RTT= Real Time Tatics, MMORPG= Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game, MMOFPS= Massively Multiplayer Online First-Person Shooter, MMORTS= Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Stratagy.

the gameinformer magazine. if u havent subscribed u can just pick up a magazine and look in the review section. and it talks about resolutions genre and various references to all prev gen games

Here are some genre definitions that I invented on the fly for this post. Term: Fighting game Type: Noun, countable Plural: Fighting games Definition: A video game which centers around two or more characters in physical brawls Term: Shooter, or shooter game Type: Noun, countable Plural: Shooters, or shooter games Definition: A video game which centers around the use of projectile weapons, especially for the purpose of combat. Sub-terms: First-person shooter: A shooter whose graphical simulation is primarily three-dimensional, and which usually keeps the camera situated as though it is the eyes of the player-character (plural first-person shooters, FPS, FPSs, or FPS's) Third-person shooter: A shooter which usually keeps the camera situated at a fixed distance near the player-character (plural third-person shooters, TPS, TPSs, or TPS's) Term: Indie game 1) Type: Noun, countable Plural: Indie games Definition: A video game published and/or developed by a small group, or by one person 2) Type: Noun, countable Plural: Indie games Definition: A video game which does not fit into any common genre Term: Platformer Type: Noun, countable Plural: Platformers Definition: A video game which centers around jumping on and between ledges and platforms Term: Racing game Type: Noun, countable Plural: Racing games Definition: A video game which centers around competing to reach a destination the soonest, or travel along a path the quickest, especially in a recursive racing track and especially with the use of motorized vehicles Term: Role-Playing game Type: Noun, countable Plural: Role-Playing games, RPGs, or RPG's Definition: Blanket term for all video games that prominently feature the collection of experience points or an equivalent, and the use of those points to directly improve the physical, practical, or magical properties of characters, creatures, or objects, especially when those properties are represented by numerical scores Sub-terms: Massively multiplayer, online Role-Playing game: A Role-Playing game which takes place on an online server that allows players to interact with one another (plural massively multiplayer, online Role-Playing games, MMORPGs, or MMORPG's) I am well-aware that I overlooked some obvious ones like puzzle and strategy.
