I really hope Sony could surprise us with an announcement for The Order 1886 sequel. It was such a good setup for a franchise personally.

  • Victorian England
  • Vampires
  • Werewolf
  • Immortals
  • Very powerful institution
  • Super old important organization have secrets

Sure the game is only 6-7 hours long and its just a 6.5/10 at best but man, the setting of this game is so good! You are part of this organization that is very powerful and acknowledged part of The British Empire. Not only that but steam/victorian architecture plays a huge part in setting that dirty London atmosphere. The first game is without a doubt a failure critically, it has many terrible mechanics like shallow cover based shooter, linear corridors, bad enemy variety and its short! Ready at Dawn, the developer behind this game is quite talented so I am sure they can deliver if given chance.

I agree, the game is flawed but has a nice cast of characters and a great art direction, atmosphere is spot on too I think. I'm ok with a sequel being in the same line as the original but they need to improve the core mechanics.

You are gonna get one, Ready at Dawn has stated that they will continue to develop this franchise several times.

I feel the same with this as I do with Ryse. I liked both games, flawed but worth playing through. The Order controlled the player too much but I had a good time with it. The story is built for a franchise, for better or worse, and it's pretty clear what needs work.

People have a tendency to ridicule games that fail to meet expectations, The Order isn't as bad as everyone seems to want it to be.

https://www.polygon.com/features/2018/8/17/17705486/revisiting-the-order-1886-ready-at-dawn

I came over this, an interview from Polygon with the creative director, from August last year. Sounds like they are working on the sequel to me.

Polygon: Before it came out, Sony was really pushing it and promoting it. And you have never been shy in the past about saying the team made the first with sequels in mind — the game ends on a cliff hanger. But we haven’t really seen anything from it since. Is there a future for the series?

RW: It’s hard for me to answer that one [laughs]. I will tell you the same answer I would’ve given in the past before The Order came out, that [the] IP was built with a lot of work behind it. Even before the release of the game, we put a lot of work on the foundations of why each of these characters are who they are, where they came from, what is behind the story. Not 1886, but what’s behind the story. We asked, ‘Where did it start? Where is it going?’ There is a lot of [story] that was already written, because we felt, again, writing a game and just kind of isolating it to just the story that it would’ve been was not enough for us.

While I agree more games could do with this European Steampunk look (I like The Chaos Engine), I don't think the developer behind a generic third person shooter and portable spin-offs is a good answer to the want.

The Order was a pretty mediocre game, its length is no excuse. Resident Evil 2 Remake is arguably just as short for a playthrough but offers great level design, tight/ interesting mechanics, and most important variety!

The Order despite its cosmetics was grown-ups Knack. An IP not seemingly worth continuation. It was generic and dull. Would even go as far to call it a Tech-demo. Didn't really accomplish more than The Saboteur or Dark Sector in its themes, but gets remembered for being an exclusive.

Only way a continuation could realistically get new life is if a more capable developer took on a sequel. Insomniac Games I feel could take-on the task but so many just want more Spiderman. Because we don't have enough openworld super hero games apparently? . .

Going back to the European Steampunk look I think Dishonored is doing a good job. Doesn't have werewolves and vampires, though does have a supernatural element to the game.

I agree, a (better) sequel to that game has potential. Failing that, I suppose we can always replay Bloodborne for our victorian fix.

the setting may be nice but the rest is just too fundamentally broken to offer any hope the developer should be given a second go at it

I agree the art style and theme are good. In my one play through of Game Dev Tycoon I had high hopes for my Knights Templar adventure game in the vain of Assassins Creed. It was too expensive though and didn't make much money even though it was to be my flagship ip.

Really, with the setting being the main draw for you, is gameplay even relevant? Perhaps this game should be a straight forward adventure game with no action at all. Such as a detective story/Indiana Jones romp.

This would mean including a genuinely interesting story with good script writing and acting. They have the setting down and skill to make a great looking environment, but when it comes to games, if they try to be a story and a gameplay game, one or the other suffers and its usually the story.

Because it was painfully bad game. Infamous and Killzone were surprisingly good early exclusives for PS4, and I enjoyed both. Order, I still shudder when I think back to how rubbish the game was in every way. Urgh...

Killzone: Shadowfall is a mediocre game dood, would throw on par with The Order 1886. Even for its release, I never valued KZ very highly outside Liberations, but Shadowfall was the worst one since the original.

Infamous Second Son seems to be what fans of the super hero genre want though.

Since its Sony's IP, I think Sony Japan Studios should come and assist on development. They could provide a team, probably the ones worked on Siren or even those guys who collab for Demons soul & Bloodborne.

Speaking of Bloodborne, Currently doing pure arcane run. I am becoming flamesprayer god hunting the foul beast of the night. Its actually a really OP early game weapon and I even killed darkbeast and amelia with it.

Again it reviewed poorly and it was a decent game well worth a play through. Graphically still holds up a sequel is well overdue.

I should probably do NG+ on BB but the 30 frames (on a good day) make my eyes fall off after 6000 hours on DS 1-3 on PC.

I'll soldier through it eventually, I missed the three cords sidequest so I couldn't fight the presence on my only run so far.

Even the game had its flaws it also had great moments. I really liked it. Have you tried Vampyr? When I played it it instantly remembered me to The Order 1886.
