So usually I get my games from Target and have never been carded but everytime I have to go to Gamestop they ask for my id before I get a Mature game. I basically yelled "I JUST TURNED 23 THE OTHER DAY ARE YOU SERIOUS" when I bought House of the Dead Overkill today because ive been checkout by this guy before. The guy was like "huh yeah its like policy though we card everybody." Now im a younger looking guy but I definately look older then 17. Is this really Gamestops policy or is he bsing me?

The guy was just doing his job, don't give him attitude. If you know you are a younger looking guy, then why give him a problem? It's the same thing at EB Games, as well as department stores that sell games.

GameStop is EB Games. But yes, that is pretty much every store's policy. I don't understand why some people get so upset that they get carded, though.

I wish more Videogame stores asked for ID when you bought a mature game, it shows they take the rating system serious and don't want a policy of selling it to underage individuals which might backfire on them in the long run. Next time, just show your ID and don't be a smart mouth, it takes shorter time to show the ID then to stand there whining about it.

Yeah, you shouldn't be yelling at people. Especially in this circumstance, where its just a guy doing his job. Yes, they are supposed to card, and its good measure for all other stores too. I don't care if you look 12 or 55, if he cards you you should be mature enough to show your ID and not act like some screaming baboon. Hey, even if he was making a mistake or something, yelling is never an appropriate, mature,or socially acceptable response.

It is their policy and workers are supposed to follow it. They card those who they don't recognize. (you wouldn't need to card a regular when they shop there all the time and you know they are over 17). At least I did and so did my co-workers when I used to work there. Of course I have been to other stores and they forget to card me and I am only 16. The rules did change right before I worked there. Now they have to card EVERYONE. Rules are rules and you never know when an ESRB undercover guy will come. (doubtful but could happen). You even are supposed to card unless they look over 30. Kind of a stretch I know but those are the rules

Maybe he didn't recognize you, then. It's very easy to forget customers' faces.

Some places are even more strict about it. Once I tried using my school ID (which said I was 18 at the time, since it has the date of birth), and the guy told me that I needed a state ID to purchase the R rated UMD at Gamestop. I thought this was strange, since I used the same ID before at other places with no problem. anyway, yeah that's how it went. Eventually a friend came in and got it for me.

17 is not an ideal age to limit.

18 is, since it is the age where you can get photo ID without difficulties.

Also 18 would mean we can add a lot more to the games. Rated R movies carry lots of things that would become AO in games.

Obviously, we need more mature rating system that thinks outside of toy box mentality of rating games.

Instead of getting so pissy about it, you should be thanking gamestop for being responsible about who they sell m-rated games to.

Why not try growing yourself a mustache and a beard? Most people with facial hair tend to look older than they actually are.

This is the only sensible thought in this whole thread.

PLEASE! They are selling video games, not alcohol or tobacco! There are no age restrictions!

Maybe some of you are too old to remember, but it was terrible being 16. I had money and a car, but to buy a game I had to bring mom. They act like when I buy Gears 2 I am buying a keg. It's just nuts.

The funny thing with me is that before I turned 17, Iwas rarelyasked to present an ID. But its a different story now. The place I had been going to for afew years at that point asked for ID before I could buy MK: Deception, which was already a year old.

It's all fine unless an employee gets really snotty about it. Like for example, forgetting your license and putting the game back, not making a fuss, etc.. and then you hear the guy say loudly to his co-worker while looking at you, "HAHA and the little brat thought he would get away with it!" happened to my friend who is 25. It can get a bit overkill when you mix in jerkclerks.

Where I live, they ask for ID for anyone who looks under 30 years of age for buying cigarettes. One place even ID people under 40 years of age!

I'm a regular at my Gamestop store nearby. They never ask me for my ID. The only time they do ask for my ID is when I use my credit card. That's it.

No, I just prefer that they ask me for proof that I am old enough. Sure, I recognize the guys who work there most of the time, but I don't think they recognize me, or would remember how old I am.

I got a photo ID at 16 with no problems... I got it instead of a driver's liscence.

I don't really understand all the aggression toward the rating system. Technically, there are age restrictions and it is up to the store's policy whether to enforce them.
