I think we've started to brand them that way more, but honestly I think the line is pretty blurry when it comes to comparisons to early 90s and before... a lot of studios back then we're small, creative, and if not truly independent they were at least under less direct creative control from the publishers.

Because of that, I think the whole "indie" thing is more of a resurrection of an older approach to making games

True. Indie isn't really a genre. It just refers to the size and structure of the development team. Indie games can be any genre.

I wouldnt even call them games, because that would imply you play them.

Despite the fact that you've lumped the amorphous and ubiquitous category of 'indie games' into the 'not a game' category, this is still such a silly and narrow minded view on the concept of play, suggesting that playing games can only be achieved in goal oriented skillful manner. There are plenty of games that have nothing to do with objectives or involve skill but are extremely important in development.

@employee427: I'm not really sure what the OP is talking about. He never specifies what he means by 'idle' games, and begins to ramble about how modern independent game development is harkoning back to how games were developed back in the '90s. The general discussion seemed to be about indie games, Do you have any insight on what @xantufrog was saying? If you do know what is being eluded to, then what would you be considering as an 'idle' game?

I'm not the OP - I was responding to the OP when making my post... the OP's post has since been removed because it was in violation of our posting guidelines. I have no idea if they meant "indie" or something else - but I took it to mean "indie" (not that it is relevant any more since their own post is toast)

In fact, I'm going to lock this thread since the whole thing is based on a post that no longer exists
