Definitely single player. I'm glad and surprised to see the poll results are all for single player. When I play MP it's with a game that I buy for MP (such as BF3, Starhawk, and Madden for both on and offline MP). Very rarely do I play the online part of a game I bought for single player, as it's usually poorly implemented or just isn't nearly as well done as games made more for online MP. Though, it is nice when games allow for online (and even better when it's offline) co-op of the main story, such as Borderlands and KZ3 (though, I think it's only for offline). The whole competitive online part only works when the devs have online as the main focus, and even then only a few games grab my attention for online play.
It's inconsequential. If it has it, cool. If it doesn't, cool. Just give me a good single-player and I'll be satisfied.
I'd rather have an awesome single player. I'm glad Batman didn't go the online route.GHO5T-The two Batman games have online ranking. That's also an online feature. That's a perfect example. Story-driven games don't need to have online features but stat comparing to ad a little bit of replayability for some people never hurts. That said, if there will ever be a racing or sports game released in the future that doesn't have a multiplayer mode I'd be disappointed. Competitive games like these - even if they are fun as an singleplayer experience - shouldn't go without it nowadays.
I still wish ME3 didn't have multiplayer. And mainly because it's effects the readiness meter in the Single Play campain. I want to get everything to 100, but I don't want to play mulitplayer to do so.
When a person is asked what his favourite games are, his list will almost always contain nothing but single player games. This seems to hold true even with this gen.
Mario Galaxy, Uncharted 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Batman Arkham Asylum/City, Bioshock, Demon/dark Souls
these are pretty much the most common games that come up when asked what's the best this gen has to offer. Gamers seem to favour single player. At least on sites like this
Most games have tacked-on multiplayer and I hate to see that. I only play single player, and a game should only be rated based on the single player experience it offers.

Venom_Raptor
but how about games like warhawk, World of Warcraft, fighters, etc.
