I mean, unless MGS4 can do for the PS3 what Halo did for Xbox, and I don't think that's gonna happen.

Alright guys let me clear this up. I think FFXIII will go multiplatform if Home isn't successful. It's just my own, personal hypothesis.
Home is arguably one of the PS3's largest selling points (or it hopefully will be). It connects millions of gamers in amazing ways that Microsoft has not yet been able to.
I've been thinking, with a number of exlusive PS3 titles that were supposed to be blockbuster, critically acclaimed hits failing to deliver (Lair, Heavenly Sword), the titles that the PS3 can bank on as "system sellers" are dwindling.
So, what hope does the PS3 have left? Well, there's the ever looming (yet painfully unplayable) MGS4, FFXIII, LittleBigPlanet, and, well, Home. Home is free as opposed to the $60 price tag of the other titles mentioned (actually I'm not so sure about the price of LittleBigPlanet... but I know it's not free!). Home is going to be accessible to every PS3 owner, something they can play right after pulling the system out of the darned box and plugging it into their swell HDTV (or whatever).
Honestly, though, whoever can afford a PS3 can afford a couple next-gen games. Yet, Home is undeniably cool and connects millions of PS3 players to each other. If Halo and WoW are any indication, the most popular games in the world are those that have a major social aspect, just like Home.
In my opinion, Home is going to be the PS3's killer app. It promises infinite replayability and will somehow be assimilated with every other PS3 game out there. It's essentially going to accomplish what Xbox Live did for Xbox all those years ago...introduce to the world a sweet, exlusive, and fresh social community.
Home connects you to yourfriends and fellow deep pocketed PS3 owners. Let's face it, Xbox had only two things going for it, or at least two things that were the roots of its popularity, and those were Halo and Xbox Live. Sony has neither, but they're cooking up a promising online service that rivals Xbox Live in nearly every way.
Now, you're probably asking yourself, "wtf does FFXIII have anything to do with this?". Well, good question, my friend. I imagine the FFXIII probably has one of the largest development budgets ever, and Square must make a fortune to make the installment profitable. With the relatively lackluster worldwide sales of the PS3, it is difficult to envision Square gaining a buck or two from FFXIII.
Home will breathe new life into the PS3, hopefully enough to push a few million sytems off the shelves. Yea, there's definitely MGS4, but I doubt a person will spend $600 to play one increcible espionage title alone. Though, I'd bet they'd spend $600 to play an incredible espionage title with friends.
As I've mentioned, social gaming is the way of future, and there's a stark absence of it in the PS3's current library of games. Luckily for Sony, LittleBigPlanet and Warhawk are on the way, and Home is the thread which connects them. Home will fuse single player gaming with multiplayer gaming, and that's awesome.
I predict that Home is huge. A phenomenon, actually. I believe it will compell more buyers to purchase a PS3 than anything else. So, without it, FFXIII must branch out to another system in order to be profitable. Yet, with Home in the PS3's arsenal, FFXIII can safely call the PS3, and only the PS3, its home.
Where did that come from? From the original post I expected some 13 year old system wars junkie. You evolved between posts into somebody who appears to have at least thought through something and have a reason. Good job.....Doesn't mean I agree with you, but the 2nd post SHOULD have been the original post.
I see no reason to buy a PS3 at all yet (and none in the foreseeable future). I also can't see Home changing that AT ALL. I just can't see a glorified online lobby and home screen(that's my impression) selling systems.
Blah. When all is said and done, Home will have virtually no effect on the sales of the PS3. The games will, and I suspect maybe even the Blu-ray player, but for selling points Home would be a very distant forth (right behind people who have empty corners in their home and want something large to fill it with).
Home is a neat addition, but for folks who really want some kind of community and interaction programs there are significantly cheaper options out there that offer up just as much. Anyone who'd drop $500 to $600 for that is just nuts.
