If you could create a video game, how would you make it?

I'd make a space simulation game with gameplay similar to that of 1990s space sims, especially borrowing heavily from Descent: FreeSpace. The story would be amazing, the game would feature the ability to give squad commands to your wingmates, but the game wouldn't be dumbed down like most games nowadays. It would have a killer soundtrack that was very fitting, and in between single player missions the player can converse with his fellow squadron pilots and further romance sub-plots, similar to Mass Effect. The game would feature a full map editor and fully supported modding tools. The multiplayer would use a service similar to the original Battle.net with chat rooms, friends lists, ladder, stat tracking, etc. but it would offer dedicated server support and both text and voice chat. Even the console versions would have chat-rooms and all of the features that the PC version would. The game would feature LAN support as well as online support, and there would be many pro-gaming tournaments and organizations. Players could play across platforms if they choose to, or they can also choose to just play with people using their platform. For instance, a PC player could play with a PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 players all on the same server. Console players would be able to download the custom missions and mods that PC players create to their consoles for free, and they would have access to the mission creator, even though they wouldn't have all of the same modding tools as PC players due to restrictions. Would a game like this interest you?

im toying with the idea of a ship commander game. think freespace...but your the captain of one of those really big ships. the player would never have direct control over the ship. instead they would need to give commands to different crew members...kinda like star trek bridge commander (minus the direct control part :P). they would also have to deal with giving targets for the ships guns, manage crew morale, give priority to ship repairs, assign new crew to tasks as other get killed in battle (different crew members would have different stats) and giving orders for different fighter squads also. i got the idea from watching BSG. what would it be like to command a ship like those in freespace or the galactica? the game wouldnt be a high octaine action game though. it would have more in common with football manager than freespace. as apollo i think it was said..."command is about people". thats what the game would be about....managing people and your ships limited resources as best as possible to get the job done.

I think it's a great way to play with friends who are all in the same room together, more fun than playing online.

An Action/RPG game based on the Harry Potter universe.

The main campaign would be about 60-80 hours per play through.

Full use of the motion controls. Wrist movement affects spells.

No online play.

I still stand by this post from a few days ago.

I want this game.

a game Based on G.I. Joe! would have all the old cartoon/ 3.5" action figure characters to play as, with gameplay as a mixture of Time Splitters and Gears Of War, not sure if i would want it to be First or Third person, i might go more for gears and the third person

I was going to make a thread like this, how convenient that it's already here.

Can we only post ideas with original IPs or can we post ideas we have for existing brands/fictional universes?

The simplest explanation for my idea would be GTA Plus, set 30-40 years in the future.

If I had the opportunity, I'd create two games (well, one original).

-Fallout 1 and 2 with fully upgraded graphics, a 3D pan-able and rotatable camera, full physics, destructible environments, a better inventory system, and smarter N.P.C. A.I. Everything else I'd leave be.

-I would kill, KILL to see an RPG similar to KOTOR that takes place in the Dune universe. Many around here are probably not familiar with Dune, but if done right it'd make one of the best RPGs ever made.

C++. I'd want my own engine that I can manipulate without restrictions.

This sounds awesome. I think I'd like the combat to be more real time in a Dune game, though. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd think it would work better. My idea for a game would be one sent in the universe from William Gibson's "Sprawl" trilogy. His popular book Neuromancer takes place in this world, and I think it lends itself perfectly to a video game. After all, so much of modern scifi films and games is heavily inspired by the Sprawl trilogy, including Deus Ex and The Matrix. In my idea for the game, you'd play as two characters: a hacker and a mercenary. The hacker sections of the game would take place in the Sprawl and in the matrix. The Sprawl sections would be third person cinematic gameplay, sort of like a Heavy Rain type thing, and would be controlled with a regular controller. But when you're character jacks into the matrix, the game would switch to motion sensor with either Kinect or Move (the Wii could not possibly run this game the way I'm picturing it) and would be in first person. You'd navigate the matrix using your hands, and it would be totally trippy and mesmerizing. The mercenary sections would be a shooter, and I'd let the player choose whether they wanted it to be third person or first person. The mercenary's equipment would be upgradeable depending on the success of his hacker cohort. I'd also have a co-op mode with some co-op specific levels, like the last few Splinter Cell games, in which one player is the merc and one is the hacker. There'd also be a class-based competitive multiplayer mode. This format could work in a Neuromancer or Count Zero game adaptation (with Case & Molly or with Bobby & Turner as the hacker and the merc, respectively), but I think I'd prefer an original story set in the Sprawl. That way, you could have the gamer choose their characters' actions and dialogue and have branching story paths. I love that in games.

A mod for Deus Ex. There is nothing more virtuous in video games than paying tribute to a game like this.
