Im nearly at the end (just finished Bernie parts) and I keep finding it harder and harder to do the missions. No I dont mean difficulty wise, I mean they are just BORING. I found myself nodding off while driving 5 min just to get to a mission destination. And when I fail, I dont fee like doing it again. I really want to finish this game..but its bloody hard!! Anyone else feel the same?

Take a cab. Press LB to call a cab and hold Y to get in.

It's pretty much a love it/hate it game based on my experience and other people's views I've seen. Many people like myself had to pretty much keep going through the repetitive missions (Save Three Leaf Clover, easily stands out from the rest.) because it was hyped through the roof.

Just a small thing though: You can take a cab and instantly teleport to your destination.

I beat the main story twice, I don't know what you should do though.

I just finished it last night.

I enjoyed the game ... I actually liked the driving parts, but you can use a cab to instantly jump almost anywhere, even during a large number of missions.

I recently learned you can even ride in occupied cabs by running up to them and holding "Y". You don't have to flag them if you don't want to.

I suppose it could get a little tedious if you have to keep driving all over.

Well you had to know it had alot of "go here do this" because it IS a Grand Theft Auto game.

At least you can instantly teleport by taking cabs in this one.

i understand what u mean. when i failed or was killed :( i would turn my ps3 off and not play for hours until i felt like i. so i said to myself when i cant beat them join them so i used some cheat codes to help me and the driving i just ignored. plus i would listen to the music. but anyways this camling down technique worked and i was able to finish the game. u just have to get used to it and get some cheat codes ( they helped alot trust me) :)

i didnt finish it and i dont know if i will. i was initially on board with the high score the game got, but once i realized its the same crap repetitive missions over and over. go here kill this drive there drop off that. it was played out by the end of GTA3 and thats how its been in every other GTA since. i love the atmosphere and i love niko but GTA is really no longer for me until it does something more meaningful with the meat of the game.

Yeah, there are a lot of missions where you have to drive a long way to your objective, which either ends with you killing someone or chasing someone down. Fail either of those and you get to complete the driving segment all over again...which takes longer and longer every time you do it. Quick replay option is nice, but it should have included the option to skip to your goal (or nearer to it).

That sounds wrong on many levels. :P

But yeah, one of the flaws I found within this game was the simple mission structure. A huge percentage of them are just drive from A to B, then huge shootout ensues. Sadly, missions like I'll Take Her, or Three Leaf Clover are painful exceptions instead of the rule.

Yes! My exact feelings..thank you!!

I did eventually beat the game, and the ending was not worth all of that at all :/.

I can't comprehend why people hate GTA4. It's like hating 20 year old scotch, or sunshine, or Jessica Alba. How is that possible? It's a brilliant game. A masterpiece in fact. On the other hand, I'm one of the six people on earth that think the Halo franchise is utterly overhyped, overrated and not even a very good FPS (hell, Prey was better) let alone the best. So people think I'm crazy too. Bottom line: To each his own.;)

I agree with you that Halo was overhyped, the third one at least. I have to adamantly disagree about GTA4 being a "masterpiece". It was a badly watered-down San Andreas with highly polished graphics. In fact, the graphics were about the only good quality of this game in comparison to the other GTAs.

Fair enough, gentleman can respectfully disagree. But I think that what you consider watered-down I would call removing unnecessary fluff. Lifting wieghts, eating just for the sake of eating, and jetpacks. Jetpacks? That's not gangsta! I thought GTA SA was terrific, mind you, but it was a bit bloated to say the least. I find GTA4 to be more densely compact and with less wasted resources. That's not to say that I don't wish they kept things like buying real estate (or being able to spend all that money on anything for that matter) and planes, but in my opinion GTA4 is at another level or two above it predecessors.

everything about GTA was masterful, except for the actual main part of the game, which sort of counts for a lot. the city was simply breathtaking. niko is immensely charismatic. the combat mechanics are much improved. there is so much life in the city. yet all we do is go from a to b and shoot a couple people or drop someone off. the only real fun to be had in the game is mostly what you do besideswhat the main point of the game is. thats how i feel anyway.

Its called Grand Theft AUTO for a reason. I'm probably one of the few that liked the game having more driving missions than shooting missions.

Unnecessary stuff? You ate and lifted weights to build and maintain your physique. And how can you call SA bloated? For fifty bucks a game, we should get our money's worht, and SA delivered despite its shortcomings. Buying real estate, plenty of side activites, a larger selection of vehicles, more customization options, etc. GTA4 was a stripped down, bare bones GTA with polished graphics, nothing more. And as for any claims to Nico's "charisma"? Please.. He was totally one-dimensional. He had a sense of humor, big deal, but all he really cared about was revenge and making money, he had no soul.

"GTA4 is at another level or two above it predecessors." - That's true if you only care about graphics.

I was seriously addicted to GTA 4 for about three to four days. I even pulled off an all night-er with it (been a long time a games done that for me). However, i'm very much agree with OneWingAngel on this one. I didn't complete it and don't think I ever will. Nico's a great protagonist and I loved the little conversations you have with people as you pick them up to go out places. I just got bored after Alex stopped writing blogs on Nico and the missions started to get annoying instead of fun at the later stages.

Damn I remember a mission where you got to steal a load of cocaine from speedboats in a heavely guarded dock. I had to spend 20 minutes of driving just to have the guy i'm suppose to be backing up, run out into the open and die, making me repeat the 20 minutes driving part again. Five or Six times I had to repeat that mission, I finally quit the game after the speedboat tipped over 3ft from the mission complete way-point.

"GTA4 is at another level or two above it predecessors." - That's true if you only care about graphics.

Niko as a characters is ruined once he gets to Algonquin; he goes from a loyal cousin and friend who is trying to make a better life for himself in Liberty City to a madman who shoots down police helicopters while shouting "GOD BLESS THIS CITY", murders droves of people and becomes a ***** for the Mafia for money (which is pointless because has ~$300,000 by the midpoint) and the tacked on "special someone" excuse.

It's at about that point, too, that people realise how repetitive the missions are (disregarding the fact that the story falls apart here too). Sure, previous GTAs followed that cutscene-drive-kill formula, but they at least had A) numerous ways for the player to go about the mission (that's kind of the point of a sandbox game) and B) interesting and wacky missions to keep the missions fresh. Burning fields of weed, anyone? IV, however, offers extremely scripted missions that can be finished one way; Rockstar's way. This makes them extremely repetitive because they're all essentially the same. Yes, there are exceptions, but there are far fewer than before. The last quarter of the game is just a blur of killing.

The scripted chases really got to me. You can shoot a vehicle (or a person on a bike) until you run out of ammo, but you cannot kill them until they reach X point on the map. Isn't that the antithesis of what a sandbox should be?

And you are right about it being stripped down; when you remove the fun and crazy stuff that people loved about GTA (the toys in the sandbox), all you're left with is an empty city that missions take place in. *shamelessly plugs his review that explains his feelings in a more appropriate manner*

It seems to me that Rockstar updated everything and expected a masterpiece but forgot the most important thing (and in my opinion the worst part of GTA) the mission structure. I have to say it probably has the worst mission structure of any game I've ever played. Seriously. It sucks. I can't beat the game because of it.

Yeah, the game's mission design was incredibly dull...

Drive here...do a drug deal...something happens...

get rid of your wanted level..

rinse and repeat= GTA 4

I mean, I liked GTA 4, but its no where near the hype

this sums it up for me too...the game's been great so far, and the only other GTA game i've spent any significant time with was vice city, so the formula is still fresh to me...i just hate replying the driving segments all over again whenever i have to redo a mission...

I'm in the same boat, about halfway thru, have played and finished several other games, but everytime I try GTAIV again I get bored fairly quickly. I loved it at first, it just doesn't have the staying power for me. Don't know when, or even if I will finish it.
