I'm starting to get sick of games with level up system and griding. Who agree with me?

To start of, I actually like grinding and leveling up, and open world games. But, many many games nowadays start to become semi-RPG and I start to get sick of that.

For example, Nier Atoumata (I know the first the Nier also was like that but hear me out). The game is a proper Hack and Slash, and it good at that, yet it has an empty world with many side quests and I don't see the merit in them. I would be much happier if the game was much linear like Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising.

Many games now turn themselfs into semi-RPG like AC Orgins and Zelda Breath of the Wild (which their original games were much linear). Although both of them are looking great games, it is kind of sad that many games are semi-rpg.

And yes, You can say I can move on for genres that are much linear like FPS (a genre that I don't like, and even there are some games with leveling up like Far Cry and Fallout). But there are so few of them.

If you say that I wrong, I would happy if you'll give me good amount of games for PS4 without griding and leveling up, because the only ones I have are Gravity Rush 2, Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian and Fighting games (and Rise of Tomb Rider, which has Level Up system, but you don't have to grind)

@yammireckorrdsan: I agree on the open world layout for Automata but not with the side-quests. They're handled very well.

Leveling and grinding can be handled in different ways depending how a game is designed, like yourself it's not always handled well and sometimes feels thrown in for artificial appeal.

If you're sick of these old RPG concepts being over done, and done poorly? For something fresh perhaps keep an eye on Monster Hunter: World. It's an RPG series with no leveling up your character. And only grind is for weapon and armor loot you want, and that alone with item buffs is the sole way you get stronger. No technical forced grind, it's about adapting to the gameplay.

@RSM-HQ: I have Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for 3DS, and it is good, but It is hard for me to get into it. The game is well designed, but... The game is too difficult for me.

I hate grinding, but I can recommend a way to mitigate it: I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts, and it's easy to grind a few levels while doing that. Just mute the stupid game and keep mashing X while you listen to your favorite thing.

@yammireckorrdsan: More the reason to keep World in mind then I guess, if you have some friends on PS4/ X1/ or P.C. that are interested in the upcoming MH game? Might be some fun jolly cooperation for you, and an RPG that doesn't have the tedium's you've mentioned.

I really like open world games but I generally don't like when games that were previously not open world try to be open world or add RPG elements like a crappy leveling and exp system that doesn't need to be there.

I like leveling system when they are done right. Often current games are just lazy about how they are made and what they do.

Look at Fallout 4. The leveling system is mostly pointless . I am doing a no perk run and I an not find any different in the way the game plays which is a bad thing for a RPG.

I don't like the monster hunter games. I find the power up system to be boring and too much of a grind with.

As for a grind, well I find FPS mp as the worse grind so nothing is as bad.

@wiouds: I completely agree with this. I don't mind level systems (I like them actually), but it feels like they aren't done right very often.

some rpgs have really really long of grinding to GITGUD (Dark Souls particularly) but its like the game's concept similar to real life. Work hard with the right patience can bore better fruits :D But hey I know not all are in favor. if you want fast paced RPG without the sense of long term grinding, play story based games with short time spans and short cutscenes.

@derpaderp: I don't think OP refers learning mechanics as a grind but the RPG reference to grinding.

As learning how to play a game successfully differs from person-to-person.

Yup, especially since no one seems to understand the system to begin with. Now it more often just serves as number bloater (which ends up imbalancing the gameplay) or as something that gates your progress for no good reason.

i wish there was an option to "save" or revert back to your original supply of your bloodvial/echos after dying to a boss fight in games like dark souls and bloodborne

it would the game soooo much more enjoyable, i hate farming/grinding after attempting to fight a new boss and using up all of my resources to only do it over, and over again until i finally break through to the next level

Disagree. The developers that use it well get the concept as clear as day. And it was never intended to be balanced.

Stat buffs and power-up selection is a choice, giving the player the freedom to create something as they wish. At times a pointless mess, and other times over powered.

The very concept was always imbalanced that's why competitive PvP communicates set build caps, to bring a little structure to a chaotic system.

When it's done well, it's great and suits RPGs. Wanting something fair doesn't apply to the intended system and that's the appeal.

I don't get out how people can "grind" through games for hours & hours, just to level up. Sounds so incredibly boring. But that's just me...

@SoNin360: I concur. MGS V is a prime example of a useless open world.

In terms of the OP, sadly it's a trend that's been around for many years now, with everyone going down the route of leveling up and/or grinding through boring quests to gain a certain number of exp to level up to move on.

I'd just like an action game where you learn new skills throughout various levels and pick up weapons without the need for stupid leveling up all the time.

You can "save" your progress on PS4, if you have a PS Plus account.

If you get to a boss door, or if you know you are about to make a run to the boss, you can quit out of the game. Then upload your save data to your PS+ online storage, through the Playstation settings menu. You can then go back to the game and take on the boss. If you happen to lose, close the application and download the save data from the online storage to your console. This will overwrite the saved data where you had used any consumables in an attempt to beat the boss and revert your character to where you were fully stocked and ready to take on the boss. You can go back into the game and try again. If you happen to lose again, can re-download that save file as many times as you'd like.

1.Quit out where you want your "save".

2.Upload save data from console storage to PS Plus Online Storage.

3.Attempt Boss.

4.If attempt failed, close application and go into the your Online Storage and download the file you just saved and choose to overwrite.

5.Start Bloodborne and go to step #3...

I know this process is not ideal and would be considered cheating or the wuss way out by hardcore souls players, but farming for bloodvials is no fun. I'd rather take the extra minute to take these steps instead. Granted, I did not start using this technique until I had already beaten Bloodborne.

Not me. I'm a completionist so I love collecting and grinding in games. As long as they lead to a rewarding experience, of course. Like grinding for better gear in WoW for example. The collectables in AS games where it's just for the sake of it, don't interest me.

I tend not to let it become a chore in the 1st place. The last game I have played where leveling came into play was Horizon Zero Dawn. Which I quite enjoyed thoroughly. I think it was done right so that it never felt tedious. imo

Saying that. Dying light did become tedious and I stopped playing it since.

Fallout 4 does it right. In that game, I never needed to grind to level up, just doing quests and exploring gave plenty enough XP.

Souls games do it wrong, with their ridiculous level up prices which rise to half millions souls at higher levels. Man, but I hated grinding in Souls games, and BB. Never again.

Older FF games were pain it this regard too. Days of grinding before bosses... Luckily FFXV is lot better, and you only need to grind occasional hour or two now and then to beat the game, and beat the hunts.

Yea, it was bs in SFV. Just in their to promote microtransactions. Game is carves up much to it's detriment.
