Ok guys, here's the issue: I am a big Horror fan, but horror fan in the sense of movies. I can't recall a Horror Movie scaring me for the past 2 years, but in question of gaming.... Ish. I think the scariest Horror Game I've played was Doom 3, and yes I tried FNAF but video game jumpscares are my kryptonite. I just can't get passed a game who has a jumpscare every 5 minutes, like Outlast! But I may be a scaredy cat in horror games (I guess because of the interaction) I really, really want to play the new one coming out this year. Problem is, and you know it, that I can't play them. So, my solution is to gradually play horror games: I'll start with the least scary one, and I'll end up, naturally, with games like Alien: Isolation and such.

So I ask, fellow gamer, could you give me some Horror games that aren't too scary? Like, I played every RPG Maker that is well known (From Ib to Witch's House) and I played the Bioshock trilogy. So are there good, not too scary horror games you could name me? And also, I prefer the one with almost no Jumpscares: I hate them. Thank you!

I'm a little confused, you want a horror game that's not too scary?

Try the Project Zero/Fatal Frame games. They're not scarey. Honest.

SOMA, Dear Esther, F.E.A.R. and the Amnesia games are all outstanding.

"Layers of Fear" comes to mind.

It's a horror game that has it's moments without going over the top and with very few jumpscares.

I'd also suggest "SOMA", "F.E.A.R." series ( avoid F.3.A.R. cause it's..crap) and a personal favorite "Condemned : Criminal Origins"

I didn't find Until Dawn too scary but it was highly entertaining.

Some might not consider it a "horror" game, but I would suggest The Last of Us.

It makes feel uncomfortable the entire time I play it (and I cant explain why), and there has only been one jump-scare so far.

Until Dawn is basically a B horror movie, so you can't go wrong there.

Once you graduate into actually scary games, play Fatal Frame 2.

Until Dawn was quite excellente at the B teen horror movie. Some people here say Bloodborne is horror ...

what systems do you have TC?

At any rate I would suggest:

Condemned: Criminal Origins

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (give it a fan patch, game is old now)

F.E.A.R

Soma

Amnesia: The dark Descent

The Evil Within

Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth (old, requires community patch if on PC)

Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines

Alien Isolation

Resident Evil 4

Dead Space

And Perhaps Dying Light, although I am a bit iffy if that would even qualify.

Try out Cry of Fear. It has one really big jumpscare in the beginning, but after that it's mostly about the atmosphere and tension than jumpscares. Also give the Silent Hill games a shot. They're pretty much all atmosphere. 2 and 3 are my favorites.

Dead Space series. Hands down.

I'm a total wimp and I can still muscle through the games if I stop and take a break every hour to motivate myself to keep going lol they're the right amount of creepy and truly terrifying and I personally love them. The scariest parts are the beginning because the developers know full well you don't know what to expect from the game. The suspense and tension will kill you. Fact. Love these games

Seconding or thirding Until Dawn. Haven't finished it yet, but its pretty great.

If you want scary 'scary', Amnesia. If you want 'meh' scary, Amnesia: Machine for pigs. I'm a complete wuss when it comes to horror games, but Machine for pigs was faaaar less nerve wracking than the first Amnesia.

Soma is just... ughh... nope nope nope. ....but at the same time, yes.. because that story is really something you need to play through. Or at least watch a lets play of it with the lights out.

Silent Hill is a classic so I'd recommend that, and Alan Wake is a psychological thriller that really gets you into the story and makes you want to keep playing. Neither game relies on jumpscares

Dying Light is too scary.
