I realized that there hasn't been much talk about Indie and Mobile games. We're all gamers, so I'll ask this simple question:

Are indie and mobile games getting the recognition they deserve as of now? Or, do we continue to focus more on console games and games developed by larger companies?

Never understood the attraction of playing games on your mobile. Why would you want diminished sound and graphics? And what happens if you get a call? Do you have to shut down the game? Unless you're bored on the train or something, I don't see the point.

that is the point of mobile games, they're mobile. But seriously most of them are short arcade games which you can pick up and put down whenever you like. The only proper games I've ever downloaded are infinity blade and FF tactics. As for indie games it wasn't untill watching the secret code that I started to care about indie games and as a whole i still only care about the truely imaginative and brillient ones. The problem with indie games are the comunity who believe that indie games will save the world from the big and evil activision/EA/ insert name of company you hate!!

"Why would you want diminished sound and graphics?" That's an interesting perspective. I can see how this would be a turn off for movies or something--mostly the sound--but for video games? Even if the gameplay was good, you wouldn't play the game on a mobile device?

Well, I suppose it has to do with the way I look at games. I tend to play games that rely on a cinematic presentation such as CoD or Mass Effect. If you were to play those kinds of games on a mobile you'd lose all of the impact. It's fine for the most basic games that cater for those who want gameplay and nothing else but that's not me.

99% of us will prefer to play Skyrim over LIMBO... that doesn't means LIMBO is a bad game. In fact, I loved LIMBO more than some games that were developed by big companies.

I said LIMBO, but I can say Hard Reset, Minecraft, Tribes: Ascend...

I think that some are giving indie games too much credits.

I think the biggest problem right now is the sheer volume of indie and mobile games being released. It's tough to pick out which ones are actually good among all the crap. Also, real money item shops are far too ubiquitous. I paid for your game; stop hitting me up for more money.

They are already getting a huge amount of focus. Mobile is the largest boom platform, and has been for the last few years - independent development is largely flourishing, for what it is. Triple A development however is in far more a rut - which is why we're seeing more triple A developers aim for that lower entry space, and free to play games. If you're somone who only focuses on E3 and retail releases then I'd say you're missing out on the largest and most diverse chunk of the games industry - E3 and the likes of isn't a third of its relevance it had 10 years ago.
