I have wondered if I should get one of these to experience Shenmue. I know that game has a cult following and it has piqued my interest after reading about it, but is it worth getting the Dreamcast for.

I guess it depends what kind of games you like if you think it'd be your cup of tea after reading about it. If you can get a DreamCast for cheap, I don't see why you shouldn't play it if you're interested.

Because he's going to notice that 1 week down the road that the game he got for this dated system is very uninteresting. It's not as fun as it sounds(if it sounds fun at all that is;)

YES!!!! Its worth it. Shenmue 3 is coming out soon and its gonna be amazing. It takes place in Seattle and Ryo travels around town looking for clues as to why the xbox 360 Red Rings of Death have destroyed an otherwise good system.

Ryo: Excuse me

Random: Oh hello

Ryo: Did you get a red ring

Random: OOOO Yes...but only twice

Ryo: I See

I'd recommend it - it's not gonna cost very much anyway - probably about a tenner for the console and same again for the game. Hell, if you wanted brand new ones I'm sure you could get em for about 3 times as much (if that's your bag), I'm really into retro gaming - it's brilliant to have a few consoles that your mates don't have and that inspire nostaliga in those around you :)

Don't bother. It's not worth the money or trouble of buying a DC for (evne though you'd probably be able to find one for around $30). Besides, with the whole remake trend going on, I think it's likely you'll see a remake for the game show up on the 360 in the next couple years.

Well, if you think you're going to like it then go for it. Dreamcasts go for cheap these days, and you can do more on them than just play Shenmue. There's also alot of homebrew software and emulators and stuff you might want to check out. There's no reason to get a DC just for Shenmue. The sequel is better, by the way. Shenmue is alright - if you like that kind of games - but it's not that good.

It isn't for everyone, but the people that it is for will enjoy it immensely. The best way I can describe it is like a more serious Broken Sword game, mixed with Virtua Fighter inspired action sequences. If that sounds like it may interest you, I'd suggest looking into it. It may not be worth getting a Dreamcast for, but Shenmue II is also on Xbox (and it has a Shenmue I DVD Story pack-in thingy). However, Dreamcast has a lot of quality titles in its own right, so it wouldn't be like you only have one game to play on it.

Shenmue is probably the biggest hit-or-miss game out there. Personally, I liked the game, but it definitely has flaws which I think were fixed in the sequel (I've never played it). I wouldn't get a Dreamcast just for Shenmue, though.

He's right. The guy who asked wether to buy a DC and Shenmue won't like it because it's so slow and boring compared to today's standards. It might did add something new but not ground shaking anymore. Personally it's a waste.

I appreciate the time everyone took to give me advice. Maybe I will hold off on playing this game for now at least. Thanks.

I've never played Shenmue, and I do have a DC, but if that's true, then I would definitely agree to just go for the Xbox version.

They go for $25 bucks on eBay for a Dreamcast and like 10 games. You can probably find them once in a while at garage sales too.

Probably not worth buying the console just for that one game, but I'm sure that there are plenty of other games you would enjoy on Dreamcast.

If not then there is always Shenmue 2 on Xbox, you get a DVD with it that has all of the cutscenes from the first game on it.
