Hi

I am looking into getting a psx, but i am wondering if it is worth it...

both ps2 and ps3 play psx games well as far as I know, they have almost exact controller

and wide spread of ps2 + cheap price, makes it an easier choice since things like replacement parts

memory cards, etc are easier to find that psx....

add to that psx had a smaller version called psone ,

i would also add that I recall psx were not reliable machines , mine stopped working (back like in 99), so getting a used one

does not feel very secure...

any thoughts on advantage of getting original psx other than nostalgia?

Well I have a PSone thats been working FOREVER! But if you think a psx is better, then sure, you can't go wrong there. Its got THE VERY BEST RPGs of ALL TIME! As long as you don't mind the graphics tho. THAT might take some getting used to if you normally play games with better graphics.

a ps2 would be a better purchase since there are no problems playing PSone games on the PS2. I have a PS2 mainly because the PS3 has problems playing all the backwards compatable games.

ps2 is the better purchase slayer is right. the one problem is that some of the games for psx are considered collectors items now so expect some heafty prices. Most, like FFVII and Chrono Cross are totally worth it though.

A PS2 would be a better choice. You'll need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games, though.

Yeah, you should just get a ps2 and a ps1 memory card. That's what I did, and I don't regret it. Also, people sell ps1 games for cheap nowadays.

It will cost you $400 to $600 to buy a PSX, I mean you can buy a new PS2 for $129.

Oh, and I think you had a typo when you said you had a PSX in 1999, they were not released until 2004, heck the PS2 didnt even come out until 2000.

Honestly, I don't think it is worth it. Both the PS2 and PS3 play all the PSX games just like a PSX, maybe a few games like the older SNES Final Fantasy ports have garbled sprites, but still playable. I would get a PS2 if I were in your situtation. I mean At the very least a PS2. If you can afford it, track down an old 20GB or 60GB PS3. Then you have all three right there!

There's about 5 ps1 games that don't work in the ps2, so unless you want to play them, there's no need

The PS3 models with the emotion engine do not have problems like the 80GB did. And as for PSone games, every PS3 has almost perfect Backwards Compatability for them. It's the PS2 games that play differently, depending on which SKU of a PS3 you get.

If you have an original PS2 ( the bigger one ) it will play virtually every PSone game under the sun. PSone ( or PSX ) was great, I suggest getting Final Fantasy Chronicles so you don't have to wait for Chrono Trigger DS lol.
