Every time I watch a trailer for The Phantom Pain for the first time, I notice a new scar on Big Boss's face; he's got one down his left eye, one across his nose, one down his lip, one that stretches from his right temple to the outer-edge of his right ear, and several on his left temple. In addition to these scars, he has a huge piece of shrapnel protruding out of his forehead and is missing one of his arms (which has been replaced with a bionic one). Do you guys think that Kojima has gone too far with this? He looks cool but perhaps Kojima should have toned it all down a bit; he reminds me of Chucky as he appears in The Bride of Chucky. What are you guys' thoughts on this?

while i agree he overdid it a bit, he had a bomb explode on his face, i think he was lucky to still have a face at all.

How do you think he loses that arm?

No. He didn't overdo it. The whole point of MGSV is showing how the amazing loveable naked snake turns into the evil hate filled big boss. Kojima even said he is basically inspired by breaking bad and wants to show a good man turning into evil madness. This is a tragedy story.

MGSV is going to be the most intense emotional roller coaster in video game history. The whole point of this game is too push the industry forward like no one else can.

Big Boss is one of the most tragic characters ever and now we get to experience it.

Well the arm could have been from the crash, but still if it was enough for him to lose an arm imagine the force of the explosion on his face plus metal flying everywhere and the helicopter crash.

No, he managed to survive a burning helicopter crash over the ocean. Course that's going to have his body heavily damaged.

If we wanna talk over the top character design, Raiden from MGS2 going to MGS4 is the most dramatic change ever.

You must be new to the Metal Gear Solid series. "Overdone" is the name of the game.

Outsidebox on youtube has some fasinating rumors about how the Big Boss we're seeing here really isn't Big Boss.

Didn't Big Boss set out to create Outer Heaven after he realized what US did to The Boss? Do you think the crew on the off-shore rig is Outer Heaven? Also, I'm still extremely bitter how Kojima treated Solid. Solid is the one I cared about, not Big Boss. He was just some corpse in MGS1. That game was a masterpiece. They make a game and turned it into a movie. When I finished that PS1 game, I thought no movie I've seen come close to the epicness I just witness, and I'm the controller.

So what happens next? Marketing switch to Raiden, Japan's image of an ideal man. Blond/Silver hair, handsome feminine looks. Bleurrghh. So there goes Solid's adventure in the PS2 era. What's next? Turn him into an old man in the PS3, and end his story. I wanna play as a fit and able body Solid, going on many adventures, not this.

And now, every Metal Gear has to be a prequel. It's so stupid. I dont care about the past. How many times must we explore the past? How many times must they invent new things about the past?

What's wrong with Big Boss? Solid Snake is pretty much the typical american action hero. BB actually has depth and a developed backstory.

I think Kojima is going for a "final combat sequence" style action hero, like Arnold in the last 20 minutes of Predator. All beaten and bruised, ramped up to 11 in the style of MGS.

That's because BB has Snake Eater 3, Peace Walker 1/2, now this, MG1/2, at the end of MGS4. But Solid was the first hero. How many games Solid have? 2!!! Plus Solid has depth and story as well, you just don't need a backstory, cause you're playing in the present. I wanna play in the present.

Back in the MGS1, you have the 2 files for MG1/2. Tells the story of BB, then 2 has the Jaeger/Solid fight in the minefield. Sounds cool in concept/story wise.

Solid Snake is in four games.

Metal Gear, Metal Gear II: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

And really, the series has been about Big Boss from the start. From what I've known of the series, Kojima, in my mind, sees Big Boss as sort of an anti-hero, fighting against the government and Patriots in a bid for freedom.

Yea, but, MG1/2 is like too primitive. I've discounted those. They were in the files in MGS1 so I group them together. I've discounted MGS2 coz of the marketing crap switch with Raiden. Then there's MGS4, granpa Solid.

Solid is the hero for me. He just saves the day. No BS. BB, I'm fine with him being the anti-hero. But if you want a private army, free of any government, and you acquire a nuclear warhead, I don't think the world would like it. In the end, Outer Heaven is viewed as a terrorist organization, so good job, BB. Feel free to correct me here if I'm wrong. I'm not the biggest fan of the story after the first one, MGS1.

Yea, it will push the industry forward when we discover Revolver Ocelot is actually Raiden's adopted brother who's nano-machines have become self-aware, decided to rebel, and altered his genetic structure so he can take a transplant from Eva to be able to covertly direct the LaleLulelo to unite the Metal Gears in opposition to Big Boss's mechanical arm which is controlling him to oppose the brain manipulation arising from the shrapnel in his head from new telekenetic bombs created by the Patriots in their attempt to gain access to arms dealers who are striving for world domination of business on the battlefield.

Oscar time, boys!

In all seriousness though. I'm going to play MGS V, and it'll be an emotional rollercoaster ride alright. I've no doubt I'm going to get more humor value out of it than anything's given me in a great while. The story will entail more pretentious, preachy convoluted garbage punctuated with prepubescent, juvenile characters, laughable acting, terrible editing, overly useless exposition, filled with the likes of soda drinking monkeys and more fecal humor. I'm sure the actual gameplay will be great though.

OP.....the use and effectiveness of subtlety is lost on Kojima, as is everything else when it comes to telling a narrative. This surprises you?

I've always thought that Revolver grafting Liquid's hand turn him into Liquid a bit in MGS2 is stupid. Then in MGS4, its the hypnosis, coz Revolver always stood beside Big Boss. So many role reversals, it actually turned me off, plus the idea of sticking someone's hand can turn you into that person, the hand can usurp the host and take over as the dominant personality, its just stupid then in MGS2, then in MGS4, if you wanna fight the Patriots, just do it, why charade as Liquid, the whole thing just turns me off. I only like MGS1, Snake Eater is ok.

Like Liquid's dead, don't tell me I'm still fighting Liquid. It just turns me off.

lol, my thoughts exactly.

It's the Metal Gear franchise, which is essentially anime for western people that dont realize that they are into anime. Expect things to be way overdone.
