The original Call of Duty games were awesome! I used to love Medal of Honor and then came out Call of Duty: Finest Hour and I had a blast! Call of Duty: Modern Warfare came out and it begun a whole new franchise within the first person genre. I personally care more for story driven games. The concept was new, it was good, it brought players in. After the second, third, etc. started being released Call of Duty quickly became another Madden NFL. Just another game to be released next year with similar graphics, no new concepts and just a lot of explosions to make you feel as if you were actually enjoying the game.
Specifically because COD, it has ruined many other franchises who try to give the player more than run around for 10 minutes dying every 3-5 seconds. MAG would have been a HUGE hit if it weren't for the COD players. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier started off good, but then came another COD and everyone left because Ghost Recon forced them to think. They wanted a game to run around and randomly kill people. Even SOCOM... what I personally think is one of the first series to introduce competitive modern combat that forced the players to use tactics rather than what COD brings you. I personally enjoy the story of COD. The online side, not so much.
