I haven't played it either, so I read the review and I'm currently watching the video review.
It's an RPG with real-time battles. It has several elements from FFVII though, like materia and limit breaks and such.
I heard its a tactical games, but from reviews it sounds like you can just hack and slash your way through the whole game.MLBknights58The reviews are correct, and I own the game. The only thing you really have to think about is what materia to bring into battle. Everything else is decided either by mashing X or the DMW reel taking care of the battle for you...

That's why I prefer the turn-based battle systems. There's a bit more strategy invovled. Unfortunately, Square doesn't seem to care much for it anymore.

I get what you're saying. I actually prefer action-oriented (read: real time) combat systems. They can be done well, and there can be strategy involved. Crisis Core is just lacking, that's all. Doesn't FFXIII have a turn-based battle system? I don't think Square Enix has given up on turn-based battles, and even if they have, other developers will cover for you.[QUOTE="Canvas_Of_Flesh"]The reviews are correct, and I own the game. I like action-oriented systems, but it seems that everything is so automated that it can get dull.

The game's about as tactical as pressing the X button every 3 seconds gets.

It's a modified ATB. This is by one of the lead designers of FFX; FFXII was handled by a different team.It can get tactical in some ways especially during some boss fights. But from what I've played so far, I wish there was more variety in the boss battles or any battle. It's kind of been just pushing the X button the whole time while healing on the side.
But I haven't gotten far into the game and the reveiws say that the battles do get more deep later on.
But no, Crisis Core is definitely not a tactic game. I think it's really simple though. But I think that's what the devs wanted, like a casual FFVII game that caters to both newcomers and fans.

Exactly. I think it's meant to be a slightly less-demanding version of FF that you can play and enjoy for 10 minutes at a time. And by that measure, I think it succeeds.

Yeah, it's fun for a handheld.
I hear you can mash the attack button without looking at the screen and win.foxhound_fox
Do you really believe that, with the acclaim the game is getting? That absurd notion comes from the first hour of the game, where you are being introduced to the gameplay mechanics, and engaging in simplified battles, but the entire combat system opens up soon thereafter. There are actually some tough boss encounters in this game that have taken me multiple tries to beat.... so no.
