Getting a PS2 is a great idea if:
You should research the library of games that are available and if it contains the types of softs you like to play...then go for it. Just take into consideration the days of the PS2 getting a sizable number of the major releases are numbered. You may want to wait until around the time of E3 to see if there's any price drop announced.
If you're going for immediate bang for your buck, a PS2 is a good buy.
I mean, they still sell all the PS2 games in stores-new and used.
Besides, the PS2 has a bunch of really great games that can provide hours of entertainment.
Depending on what you like, you can get games like DMC, FF, KH, and, a personal favorite, Katamari Damacy.
So, I'd recommend it.
I got my first one a couple of weeks ago. It is hard to find NEW copies of older games but getting them used at a gamestop or ebay isn't bad at all. Actually a lot of times you will have to buy games online cause stores are slowly getting rid of them.
Simply put it is worth it.
Put another check in the it's a great idea category.
If you don't mind dated graphics and want a ton of games to choose from it's great. God of War 1 and 2 and MGS games alone almost make it worth it. With 1400 + titles your bound to find plenty of games you like to keep you busy for quite some time.
I say dated graphics because they look pretty good on a standard TV but get kind of sketchy on a bigger new HD set. Obviously one of the "next gen" systems look better but if you can get past that some of the games are truly amazing.
If you cant afford a the cost of a new system and games at 50 - 60 bucks a pop it's a great way to get your gaming fix. $250 will get you set up with the console, save card and three or four games. More if you buy used. Make no mistake, your going to want a new system just as much if not more after you start getting into the massive pile of titles but a PS2 should tied you over for a little while.
Heck yeah, I just got DMC3 a couple days ago and I'm lovin' it!
I'm even playing my ps2 more than usual now that my 360 is out for repair.
bad idea it is already running low on new gamesguitarcamel
Think about it this way: PS2 has a library that has been built up over the past 8 years. For someone who has never had one, these are all "new" games, so whether or not the system is getting brand NEW, new games really doesn't matter.
There's a library there that would take years to play. Just based on games that averaged an 80% rating alone.
